View Full Version : Can I create a backup from an upgraded TiVo 2-drive system with failed 2ndary drive?

I upgraded my original TiVo 140060 several years ago to a 2-drive system. Of course I did a system backup.

Today a hard drive failed in the system. I would like to load a 7.2 image on a newly purchased drive, but my backup is an older version.

Question: If it is the secondary drive which failed, can I still use MFSTools to create a TiVo backup using only the primary drive?

( I know that I can't get the recordings back - I just want to get the latest backup of the OS and my wishlists).

There is an experimental option in MFSTools2 -E see New MFS Tools features, and a question (http://www.tivocommunity.com/tivo-vb/showthread.php?p=2651877&&#post2651877)

Tiger was working on adding support for this to MFS Tools a while back. Here is his thread:

I believe he's kinda dropped off the map again since then, but there might still be a version of MFS Tools with the added functionality available somewhere within the thread (I don't know). If so, it would be worth a try.

BTW, if you're stuck with the older backup, simply restore it without using -x to expand, put it back in the TiVo, let it upgrade to 7.x, (optionally) create a 7.x backup, and then use mfsadd -x to expand.
