I just configured my TiVo to work on my wireless network (using a Netgear 802.11G adapter). I installed TiVo Desktop on my PC, and I was able to connect to my TiVo and see my recorded programs.

To start, I wanted to transfer a 3-hour recording that was recorded at Best Quality to my computer. According to the TiVo Desktop, this was a 7+GB recording. When I started the transfer, it told me that this was going to take around 10 hours to complete, and it continued to give me approximately the same estimate after an hour's worth of transferring. I let this run all night, but when I checked on it in the morning, it looks like it crapped out 3/4 of the way through the transfer. The TiVo was not recognizing the wireless adapter anymore, so I had to reboot it.

Is this slow of a transfer expected for such a large recording, or is something not right?

What's strange is that on one of my Tivos, a 3 hour recording will take 3 hours to transmit. On the other, it will take about 9 hours.

Running into a similar issue with a high quality recording (4.5 hrs, 7+gig size)... Tivo doesn't lose recognition of the wireless adapter, but the transfer dies about 1/2way or 3/4way through... have tried it with the desktop as well as a straight download from the /nowplaying interface... anyone out there with suggestions on how to transfer a large video file to a PC ??

Try TiVoPlayList (http://bellsouthpwp.net/d/c/dcahoe/tivo/index.htm) and you should be able to do it.

One hour show = one hour transfer time.

I also have a PC that has a Hauppauge 150 card in it that I use when there's a conflict on Tivo and the transfer rates are the same in the other direction transferring to the Tivo.

One hour show = one hour transfer time.

Transfer time has a lot to do with filesize. Don't forget different recording qualities translate to different bitrates and filesizes. If you don't specify at least the recording quality (if not the actually file size), then comparisons are meaningless.
