View Full Version : SD-DVR40 "Failed While Preparing Data"

Hello All,
Picked up one of those refurbished SD-DVR40's on eBay. Its working fine but won't complete a daily call. When I force a daily call it connects, spends about 45 minutes downloading (My 6.2 Update I assume), hangs up, spends 5 minutes or so "preparing data", before displaying "Failed, while preparing data". This has happened 3 or 4 times now from both my Vonage VOIP line and my parents land line. The test calls go through fine. Anybody know how I can fix this?

Just keep forcing the call.
It took mine several times over Vonage. The update over the phone is longer then 1 hr.
Everytime it connects it get more of the code and does not have to start over.
Keep forcing it and you will evently get the whole thing

Did you get the same error message? "Failed while preparing data" My downloads complete, over both Vonage and land line.

Did you try the clear and delete format, and then start over

Yeah, this is a new unit.

I had the same problem when I received my DVR4ME SD-DVR40. After doing a clear & delete everything, I was upgraded to 6.2 on the first try.

Yes, I did get that error plus several others. I just keep forcing the call, over a few days

We had the same problem with our old unit, although we have Time Warner VOIP, not Vonage. I tried everything, including PPP, for almost a month - got the call to go through over and over again, only to always get the "failed while loading data" message. Couldn't get any help from customer support, so came here.
After literally doing almost everything I saw suggested, I resorted to the clear and delete - only to see the unit get stuck. Completely. Had the "this will take about an hour" screen for something like 48 hours. Went through everything again with customer support, but it looked like the hard drive had died.
We ended up getting a replacement unit. Maybe I could have somehow fixed it with greater computer knowledge, but I think it was just dead. Hopefully yours isn't, and it's a different problem...but I thought this might be worth sharing so that you don't think you're going crazy if none of these fixes work. Perhaps the unit wasn't refurbished well.

I bought a refurbished SD-DVR-40 on eBay and had the same problem. I retried forcing a daily call numerous times without success. Then I re-ran the satellite setup and notice the system had previously been on a tri-LNB system, I have a dual. Once I reran with the correct parameters, the daily call successfully downloaded the 6.2 s/w and updated on the next restart.
