2 weeks ago i unplugged the T60 because i got another hdtivo. I did save all my info on my dvd hard drive so at least i know what i lost (if i did lose here).

I went to plug it in today (have tons of old stuff to watch), and keeps doing the welcome power up thing every 20 seconds or so. Research here shows it's probably a bad drive. Any other suggestions?

And of course I have 2 drives in so am going to have to take them out and test them to see which. One has a high whiny pitch but there are no clicks or anything like i've seen in another failing drive.

so why in the world would it die just because I unplugged it? Maybe it was jealous? Both drives are less than 2 years old and i did buy the extended warranty so hopefully if one tests bad they will send the replacement ahead so i can try to save some stuff.

ok...took the drive bracket out and seated the whole thing on top of the case...reseated all the drives...now it boots but damn is that a high pitch still. Is it fair to say it still may be a dying drive? The sony was loud before but i knew it was fan noise. This sounds like HD noise for sure. :(

joy...i knew i shoulda just left the drives outside the unit...put everything back together and now a green screen...wahh

will the GSOD run ok even unsubbed and not hooked to a phone line? and i think the whine may have gone away while it's GSOD..would that be expected behavior?

now that i think about this...maybe the WD drives always whined but i was used to the quiet after 2 weeks unplugged?

update: gsod fixed it. So far it appears my stuff is still there. Now to get 150 more hours in a day so i can watch it all and retire the machine :)

on this unsubbed sony, i keep it at the acquiring screen- try again/live tv etc (or maybe i'm forced to but i never tried any other screen) and just go in and watch old stuff as i have time. Are the hard drives spinning during the time it is sitting on the 'trying to acquire' screen?
