I have a directivo, i love it. The best feature is the ability to record 2 shows at once. The problem is that I want a lot of the features that are available on the stand alone units while i keep the ability to record 2 shows at once.

this may be an ignorant questiosn but, I don't mind buying 2 series 2 tivos(1 living room, 1 bedroom). Will i still be able to record 2 shows at once, from each tivo. If so do i have to get up and go to the other unit to set it up. If anybody can let me know about the pros and cons I would appreciate it, thanks.

What features are you looking for? Almost all of the features of a standalone can be enabled on a DirecTiVo, with a bit of hacking.

Something to consider: you would have to pay a TiVo subscription fee for each standalone you had. I currently have four [networked] DirecTiVos, and I only pay one $5.99 DVR fee.

You will have to set up and manage recordings one each TiVo.

OK, I have 4 Direct Tivos (S2) and am about to network a 3rd. I pay a small fee to enable each additional Direct Tivo. Yes, I want to record 2 shows on each and have each of them see each other. How do you get away with only 1 fee?

There is one DVR fee to cover, I think, up to eight DirecTiVo's. That's the TiVo fee.
But each DirecTiVo is a receiver, and for that you are charged a mirroring fee for each, every month.

You are only paying one DVR fee to cover all 4 Direct Tivos. You are paying for each unit as a receiver - a mirroring fee. That is normal.

More directly to the point, if I have a DirecTiVo with a lifetime TiVo subscription, can I add a second DirecTiVo and it too will essentially have a lifetime subscription? (As long as the first TiVo is kept in service.)

Any querys about lease see here http://www.tivocommunity.com/tivo-vb/showthread.php?t=287514 However if you get one used you may fight with D* to have it listed as owned. Good luck with that as several here say they keep changing the stats on a usede machine saying it is leased and they keep calling to change it back. Seems like a PITA to me.( Pain. In. TH. A**)
