My old HDVR2 just died. I though it was the hard drive and I have received two replacement hard drives from WeaKnees. It still does not work.

I called DirecTV for help and after trying to get it working I decided it was dead. D* offered to send me a replacement unit for no cost and just $19.99 shipping. They said I had to sign up for a two year contract (no added cost since I have the premium package). The contract does not matter because I enjoy D* and the NFL package. I did insist that I would not accept a R15. He said that I could choice between a Tivo unit (40 or 80 gb, whatever in stock) or the R15. I chose the Tivo.

My question, has anyone else received a replacement Tivo unit in the last few weeks? If so, what brand and hard drive size? I still don't believe that they will send me the non-R15.

Thanks,

AQ

I've had 3 R10s as replacements from D* within the past month.

Do be aware that they'll classify this replacement as a leased unit. (If your experience was like mine, they won't tell you that up front at all. It will just show up that way on your statement.)

Had a Hughes SD DVR-40 die last Sunday. I have the D* service protection. Called them Sunday night, a Hughes SD DVR-40 was delivered on Tuesday.
No problems, no lease, no contract extension. Told me to keep the old one. They did not want it back.

Don't think DTV can classify a warranty replacement for an owned box as a lease.
If they did that to me, I'd have a letter off to my state attorney general the nexst day.

I certainly don't disagree with your sentiment, but based on what I observed personally (3 times) and what others have stated here, if you call and activate a "new" box it is automatically classified as lease. The only way around this is to ask for the Access Card Dept. and have them change the default classification.

Since DTV sent me a progression of replacements, every time I activated one I had to go through this elongated process. My current activity on my online bill is a mess. I have at least 20 lines showing activation of a leased receiver and then various changes related to that to get the classification correct.

BTW, I didn't see anywhere where the original poster indicated that the replacement was a warranty replacement.
