If anyone can suggest a solution to the following problem i'd be much obliged.

My Tivo has a cachecard, and therefore a network point.
When i run a (really) long bit of cat5 from Tivo to my linksys wireless router it works!!! I can make the daily call, and ping the tivo.

However when i use my newly purchased (and tested with a couple of PC's) linksys wireless bridge (WET54g) it doesnt work. I can't ping it or make a daily call.

I've spent about an hour on live web chat with linksys to determine what the problem is.... and have concluded the bridge works as i can put my other pc on it and connect to the network.

So, in conclusion WHY DOESNT IT WORK????

And as an after thought, can i change the network settings of the cachecard over the network?? Or do i have to take the hard disk out of Tivo and do it manually???

are you using a straight through cable between router and tivo?

Your 'really long' cable must have been a crossover cable when connecting directly.

Hi

I had a conntection issue with my wireless bridge (SMCWEBT-G). Turned out it was a layer 2 issue between the cachecard interface and the bridge wired interface. (Some network interfaces find it difficuly to negotiate a full duplex/half duplex connection etc.)
In summary I had to buy a network switch and stick it between the bridge and the cachecard (the cheapest one will do).
I searched the forums and found that I am not the only one with this problem.
Not sure that your linksys bridge is incompatible as I seem to recall other people using this bridge with the cachecard.
Worth a shot to try this tho if you can borrow a hub or switch from someone or get one sale and return.

I considered trying a hub/switch.... but didn't bother trying it in the end.

Luckily i have too much unused electronics and one of the bits is a netgear 8 port switch ( lucky me :) ). So needless to say, i'm just about to try it :D
