Serious error???!!!??

Hi all,
I've just this minute had a green screen on my tivo that i haven't seen before saying
' A Sreious error has occured. please leve the reciever plugged in for the next 24hrs and do not restart or disconnect from the phone line'

What might this be?
Has anyone had the same?
I'm assuming that its a little more serious than the hard drive

Hi Paul,

What you're seeing is a GSOD (Green Screen of Death) - although it's not normally as serious as it's nickname suggests. It's like the TiVo equivalent of Windows' ScanDisk and normally completes in an hour or so.

It's triggered by corruption in the TiVo filesystem, so is normally associated with something like a powercut or a failing hard drive. IME, the worst prognosis is that your drive is on the way out and will have to be replaced. Not good, I know, but not as bad as a dead TiVo :eek:

Thanks for that, I've had problems with my hard drive since I bought a replacement so perhaps this is the final warning!
