View Full Version : Failing to connect during setup (as I think TiVo is set to use the internet)

Hi,

Just got a second TiVo and I'm trying to set it up without much luck as it is refusing to connect during the procedure.

The TiVo has a network card in it and I think it has perhaps previously been set to connect via the web rather than the phone line.

I don't readily have the facilities to access it over the network, so is there any way I can get this TiVo to connect via the phone?

If network is my only option, is it possible to connect to a box that hasn't been setup?

Best thing to do would be to contact the seller and ask what IP address was assigned to the tivo.

You may then be able to login to the tivo while it is up and running to change it so it uses dialup rather than network update.

I've had little luck with this problem.

So I ended up changing the hard drive.

But it still doesn't connect!

Anyway, I know the ip address of this hard drive setup so connect to the TiVo via that.

TiVoWeb is available and I see the phone section. I select make a test call, and it seems to do it ok, even though it is only connected through the network!

It seems the phone setting isn't stored on the HD?

So any suggestions how I reset this to phone access now I can network access the TiVo?

I have no experience using a TiVo through it's network connection.

You need to Telnet into the Tivo and run "nic_config_tivo". I suppose you're going to ask how to do that now, aren't you? :)

Nope! I had just found another post by your good self and was already in the process of doing just that! :)

Would ripping out that large watch battery have worked? As that was my next hope!
