Ok so here's the deal. I need advice/help. I'm moving and getting Vonage with my new house. I'm putting the computer in one room and Tivo in the other. The vonage needs to be connected to the computer to work. Am i able to have the tivo in one room and the vonage in the other?! And if so, please tell me how and what to get/do. Thank you very much.

First your computer has NOTHING to do with vonage service, You connect the ATA (Analog Telephone Adapter) directly to your Router and run all phone conn3ections from the ATA.
Next, there are many threads about the issue of using Vonage with TiVos you can do a search and find all the issues, sucesses, and failures that perple using Vonage have encountered.

More to the point (given the second part of OldDog's message), you'll probably want to look into putting the TiVo on a network connection. VoIP services, while pretty good for voice these days, compress the traffic too much for most analog modems to work (the frequencies don't get properly repeated).
However, you can get a wired or wireless adapter for your TiVo and connect it to your router with relative ease. If you would be in a position to run a network cable, I'd recommend wired as the new version of the TiVo OS is having trouble with some wireless adapters. The other option is to get a TiVo Brand Wireless adapter.
In either case, run a search for Vonage in here and the Help forum, and you'll find some more information. I think some people may have succeeded with a modem, but I'd wager they're few and far between.

... or, search the forums for Tivo and Vonage and read what others have already done about the issue. There's about 30 pages (or so it seemed) of discussion that might be helpful if someone searches through it and reads the info there-in.

The short answer:
You have Vonage, PC & Cable/DSL modem in one room.
Step 1. Buy a wireless router & put it in that room with the PC.
Step 2. Buy the TiVo wireless adaptor and put it on your TiVo in the other room.
Step 3. There isn't a step 3. You're done. :-)

I am running on Road Runner, and am using a Linksys Router which is where the VOIP ATA is connected. What am I missing to make the Tivo Wireless for the daily 800 number calls?

If your router isn't wireless, get a wireless router and replace the one you have. You shouldn't have to change any of the settings on the new router, it should just work.
IF you want security on your wireless you can do some other things, however to get your TiVo on the wireless:
Get an wireless adapter, the TiVo ones are guaranteed to work, others work as well if you want to try finding those. If you want to use a 802.11g network save yourself and get the TiVo adapter.
Assuming you didn't set any security options go to your TiVo and plug in the wireless adapter and go into your connection settings and tell the TiVo to use a broadband connection. You'll ber asked if you want to user DHCP, select yes. It'll also ask you for your SSID. Your default ID is "LinkSys" with no quote marks.
That should be all you need to do to start using broadband.

If he's able, he could run a length of Cat 5 cable from the TiVo to the router as well.

True, but that would require the purchase of a Wired adapter. I'm not sure which one. A search of the forum would probably reveal it though.

When your order Vonage, you can choose between a wired router or a wireless router (it's cost a little more though), both by Lynksys. I am using Vonage with the Linksys WRTP54G, and I have an adapter on my Tivo to connect the two.
If you're talking trying to use the phone line, you either need a separate Vonage/Lynksys router for the Tivo, or use a really long phone cord between rooms to connect the tivo to the router (they should have two phone jacks). I agree with the others that VOIP service for a Tivo is not a good idea, but it can work.
Or if you have the DT, you could use an Ethernet cord to connect the Tivo and the router. You would just need to be able to bring the cord to the next room (perhaps if you have a crawlspace or a basement).

I'm using 3 Netgear xe102 to connect my Tivos in 2 separate rooms to my router in a third room. They work over the power lines in your home. It's faster than wireless but a little slower than an ethernet wire. I've had them for a few weeks and they have worked flawlessly.
You still need a wired USB ethernet adapter for the Tivo, but I bought 2 of the Netgear fa120 adapters on Ebay for $12.95 each. You can also get the XE102 I mentioned above for around $23 shipped on Ebay.
I didn't want to run wire through the walls and the attic and I'm very happy with the results.
