I just updated my tivo by connecting to the service, mind you I have 7.2.2 installed already, the download took about 2 minutes (with usb adapter) and after it loaded the downloaded material, it said pending restart, I am in the process of the service pack installation now, what could this be???

It says I just recv'd the Winter 2006 service update with 1 button deletes and improved suggestions, however I have already had that for about a month

Wasn't there a beta version of 7.2.2 that was pushed out to some people? Maybe you just got the final version. Or maybe I'm crazy.

Some people got a K release and now everyone seems to be getting 7.2.2 without the K.

I just got this too... maybe they fixed that problem with the network adapters?

TivoOpsMgr had posted elsewhere that the "K" was used to identify the Beta release. Along with those that sign up for the Beta program, the beta software gets pushed out to a random sample of customers just before the offical release. Once the software if formally released all customers with the K release will get the Official software release even though there's no significant differences to the software they already have.

All correct except the "K" release isn't the beta release -- it's the final release. The only difference between the "K" version and the version everyone else is getting is that there's a different version number. There are absolutely no other differences. But, to ease confusion, we do send the update at the end of the release so that everyone's running the same version.

(So, why do we start out the release by sending the K version at all? We do that every release. Once a release passes beta criteria, we send it to a group of random customers to check the "supportability" of the release -- how many people call support. We keep things slow for a while at first, and once we know how many support calls we can expect, we set the rollout schedule from there. It saves us a little time in the release process to not spin a new version with the final version number, and since you guys want releases as soon as possible, we go ahead and release it with the non-final version number at first.)

And, I suppose I'll take this opportunity to confirm that we are indeed complete in rolling out 7.2.2 to all customers! If you don't have 7.2.2 yet, force a connection and you'll get it. :)

And looking at the message that came with last month's update...it looks the same. Anyone know the difference? just a patch maybe?

The last time I talked to my wife, her TiVo didn't have the new release. (But that was several days ago.) Maybe she's got it by now.

(I won't get it on my TiVo, because I use a series 1.)

I posted about this in another thread. Thanks for the answer, TiVoOpsMgr

NP, MickeS -- I was about to post in that other thread but instead I'll just bump this one in case others have the same question.

Stephen,

Does this mean that the issue with some network adapters is fixed or is the update only going to people with "compatible" adapters?

Thanks

Mine has done this about 4 times over the span of two months. Is this normal?

Any reason why I can't get 7.2.2?

I've tried forcing a connection once a day for the last few days.

still have 7.2.1

I have a Toshiba SD-H400

Depends on what type of network adapter you are using ... Tivo won't download 7.2.2 to users with an adapter incompatable with the release.

Correct -- we've identified about 12,000 customers using incompatible network adapters, as Jerry specifies in the thread listed below. These will stay at 7.2.1 while we study the issue.

Stephen

I have series 1s so am just curious.

Does this mean that the CLEAR key now deletes a show with no confirmation screen... because of that new "deleted items" folder?

Stephen,

Is there any reason why, after getting 7.2.2 again, I no longer have the option of "Music, Photos & More" on TiVo Central? My TiVo recognizes the network and is getting guide data via broadband, but for some reason that option is just absent from the main menu, as is the folder in NP that allows me to transfer shows from the PC to the TiVo.

Try uninstalling Tivo Desktop and then reinstalling it. I had the same problem prior to 7.2.2 and tech support advised that there still bugs in Tivo Desktop 2.2. After I reinstalled 2.2 my Tivo saw my PC including music and photos.

My Tivo just got an update but had no message attatched when it was done. It says my system is 7.2.2b. I know I had 7.2.2 before but I'm not sure if there was any letter associated with it.

Does anyone know if this means anything?

7.2.2b was released to correct Random Reboots (http://www.tivocommunity.com/tivo-vb/showthread.php?t=292962) that users were experiencing with 7.2.2.

Thanks for the update... my TiVo had rebooted this morning, and I was afraid there was something wrong with it. :) Most likely it's just this update then...

i thought 7.2.2b was going to be an update by request only... is this a problem that is more widespread among all broadband users?

In the past week I've had 3 restarts to install a service update. After the update, the version number does not change (7.2.2-oth,1-2-140). This morning I forced a service connection and it again put the box in a restart pending state.

I had been having the problem too...only two or three times so we didn't get worried enough to start calling Support or anything, but I was very happy to stumble across this thread and find that TiVo is on top of it!

Sunday morning, I called TiVo about my problem. They had me try some restarts and consulted their logs and concluded that that yup, the update has been failing since the 2nd. They then tried to have me do a 'kickstart' to run more thorough diagnostics on it but I could get it into that mode following their instructions. At that point (~55 minutes into the call), they said the unit was bad and explained their exchange program to me. I told them I'd think about it.

Sunday night, I searched TCF for kickstart and found slightly different instructions for performing a kickstart. Following those instructions got it to boot into a green screen that said it was trying to fix a problem and to go away for 3 hours. The box rebooted 5 minutes later, rather than 3 hours, and nothing appears to have changed.
