Wikipedia defines nerd as: "the designation nerd (occasionally in the form nurd) applies to an intellectually gifted (probably > 120 or so IQ) but lonely and socially awkward person, one fascinated by knowledge, especially science and mathematics, and less interested in physical and social activities. Visual impairment (hence the glasses) and some form of High-Functioning Autism are also common characteristics, and the social impairment can often be explained by the latter"
So someone that likes Battlestar Galactic is automatically a nerd, and someone that watches football is not? What if you like both sports and sci-fi? Or if you like sports, sci-fi and watch reality shows? Or you do all those things and snowboard? Or do all those things and hang out with friends? Whoever wrote that should be ashamed. TiVo I implore you to keep your programming writers in check. This is just mean to those that actually do enjoy the Battlestar Galactic series. You don't want to alienate some of your customers do you?

I'm referring to the Featured Shows (2/3) on TiVo Central. There's no call for stuff like that. TiVo's job is to post the shows, dates, times, and objective descriptions... not make snide comments.

I suggest you sell your TiVo on eBay, and use the proceeds to move to a cave in the jungle where no one can find you, as you seem to be easily angered.
This way, nobody could call you names anymore. (Or at least if they did, you'd be in a cave in the jungle, where you couldn't hear them.)

Actually when you click to read more... it's not nearly as offensive as that blurb might seem at first. And secondly - aren't these blurbs written by the users who recommend the show???
It's written clearly with the tongue planted firmly in the cheek. For anyone to get offended by this - nerd or otherwise - is downright silly.
And yeah.. if you watch BG - odds are your nerd factor is fairly high. Trust me. I know.
But do read the FULL TEXT before you pass judgement.
Battlestar Galactica is pretty awesome, but I think mainly for nerds. But when I say nerds, I am cutting it pretty wide. If you think you are a nerd, then you will like this show. If you don't think you are a nerd, then you might still be a nerd. In which case potentially 75% of the population (my estimation of % of nerds + % of nerds in denial) might really love this show.
It helps if you get in in the beginning. But you can still enjoy the storylines and the effects without having seen the first season. The space scenes are some of the more "realistic" ones (much more reaslistic than the 70's version)—in terms of actual physics of mobility in space (and location of altitude jets). Plus it has Edward James Almos, who plays the same guy he played in Miami Vice only a little chubbier and, you know, in space. Check it.

"Movie-quality special effects lead by veteran actor Edward James Olmos tells of humanities struggle against contemporary Cylons. Fans are sure to find something they enjoy in this Sci-Fi Channel flagship series."
More objective...

Oh right I totally forgot... being snide is cool these days. Now I remember why I don't watch that much television. Even asking TiVo nicely prompts a shitstorm from the peanut gallery. Hi-larious indeed.

Right, like watching the first 3 weeks of American Idol is "funny". The torture scenes in 24 are funny. Knowing "reality" shows are scripted. The President on The West Wing has to tell his staff to get their collective heads out of their collective asses. Survivor is still on the air. The Simpsons is going to be run for another two seasons. Yeah that's funny too.

"So I go down the streets,
Down to my good friend's house
I said "Look man I'm outdoors you know,
Can I stay with you maybe a couple days?"
He said "Let me go and ask my wife"
He come out of the house,
I could see it in his face
I know that was no
He said "I don't know man, ah she kinda funny, you know"
I said "I know, everybody funny, now you funny too""

Gorba, you need to work on your communication skills. (common symptom of nerdiness too I think)
What's your point? Your first post was of course nonsense, because of the obfuscated image link. You could tell us that this was an image link we needed to de-obfuscate, or you could actually tell us what the content in the image was that you object to.
And now with this post, you are talking somehow about asking Tivo nicely? Asking them what? Where did you do that, and how is that related to this thread?
It's a JOKE. Most adults would acknowledge that the use of the word "nerd" is not insulting. Most of us wear the label with pride. The only person I can see finding even the slightest offense in that joke is a nerdy 7th grader.
Frankly, I find it perfectly well targeted to the TiVo users. We are nerds and proud of it. TiVo recognizes this wondrous quality in it's customers and applies humor to us. Not to mention that the writer of the joke in the first place probably considers himself a nerd.
I do disagree with his premise, however. I think BG appeals more to non-nerds than it does nerds. They gloss over all that "nasty" technical stuff and get right to the juicy soap opera content, violence, and hot actors and actresses. I like more nerd content in my SF.

I bought the TiVo because I AM a geek. A nerd wouldn't even own a TiVo or for that matter watch Battlestar Galactica. They would instead be having wet dreams about this (http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/0521633036/sr=8-3/qid=1144714865/ref=pd_bbs_3/002-9402665-7810456?%5Fencoding=UTF8).

Anyhow I spoke my mind. I think TiVo could've worded that description just a little differently. Fans of BG are just as relevant as fans of AI or Desperate Housewives. Different strokes for different folks.

What about Facts of Life?
These are important questions.
