I recently got digital cable. They use a DVR that gets its Guide through the cable, not through daily updates on the phone.

I was given a Phillips Personal TV Receiver (model # HDR31201-30GB) that I believe was meant to be used with DirectTV. If I connect the cable to it, I can watch the TV. But to record, I have to daily update on the phone. Is there any way I can use it through my cable company?

Thanks, in advance, for you help.

Unless you hack the Philips, the only way it's going to get programming information is through the phone line. Depending on where you are, this can be a free local call.

The other option is to visit the TiVo Underground area of this forum and look into some of the upgrades that will allow you to get programming from the internet, but you will not succeed in getting it from the cable company (AFAIK).

No, that was made to be used with cable, sat and antenna. Go in to Msgs & Setting->reset? -> redo Guided setup.

One thing when you was using it with DirecTV, was you using a IR blaster ( that connects in the back of the TiVo with a purple cord) if not, most likely you will need to buy one.
