Hello all, I've found this site searching for information on my problem but did not find a definitive answer to my problem. The TiVo in question is a refurb that we got sent back in exchange for our origional one. We've had this one about 4 months and just noticed this problem as we rarely watch DVDs. All other sound is normal except when we play a DVD. It's a continuous crackling sound that accompanies any sound. If there is silence it goes away until there is sound again. It is not present on any of the menu sounds, live tv, or recorded tv. It's only with a DVD. I changed the cables to a set of shielded ones I had and that didn't help. I fear it's a hardware problem. Here is the info from my system:

Brand: Humax
Platform: Series 2
Software Version: 5.4-01-2-595
Tivo Service number: 595-801-C02B-6DD7
Recording capacit: Up to 82 Minutes
DVD Firmware: DVD-RW - DVR-108RZ rev. 1.15

It is setup through a satellite box and IR. All through (new) RCAs. Like I said it ONLY does it through DVDs and no where else. Any tips, advice, or ways to rid myself of this headache of a machine would be appreciated.

I agree. Something is wrong with your Humax's DVD audio circuitry. Does your TV or AV Receiver have an optical audio connection? Perhaps that would work better.

No, none of my TVs have optical inputs. I did try it on a totally different TV as well as my other surround sound system and the distortion was there no matter which I used. It seems this one is due for an exchange  This thing has been nothing but headaches since we got it.

Before you give up, try rebooting the DVR ..... disconnect power, wait 30-seconds, reconnect power.

I did that when I moved it to the other TV.
