We have an area in our house where we both go to watch TV together, but don't have a TiVo there.

How much would it run to get a TiVo that wouldn't be subscription but rather just on the wireless network so we could pull shows off our other TiVos to wtach together?

Is that even possible?

Can't do it without a subscription. If you already have a Tivo, the box would cost you $6.95/month.

TV without TiVo? The concept doesn't even make sense. What do you watch? How do you know what's on? How does it work when you want to pause, replay, or skip commercials? I don't get it.

Or do you mean you have a cable company DVR? That makes more sense. Because TV without TiVo -- that's just crazy talk.

We don't watch TV in there much. Or really, at all. It's an area we'd like to utilize more.

So you're saying I couldn't just put an old Series 2 in there with 40 hours and no subscription, with a wireless adaptor and I couldn't pull off of the TiVos we have in other rooms?

S2s won't work without the sub. Only some S1s will work unsubbed (depending on what software they originally shipped with).

So yeah, if you have or can get a 40 hour S2 cheap, why not go with that plan? As everybody has said, it would only cost you $6.95/mo to sub it.

Option 1:
Run Coax from the main TiVo, use an IR Extender, get a second TiVo remote for that TV. You can then watch your main TiVo in that room.

Option 2:
Hack your SA TiVo. Buy a DirecTV TiVo, hack it. It will then MRV with your SA for no monthly fee.

Option 3:
Buy an SA, pay $6.95 a month.

Why not just back wire the other Tivo into there? Cost $0. You would just have to worry about controlling it.... but you could always spend $20 on a remote extender- or you could teach a chimpanzee to run upstairs and change the channels (but when I tried this he kept changing it TBS).

It is my understanding that, once zippered, you can exchange shows between the SA and TDV Tivos... am I wrong?

If I am correct, the unsub'd DTivo could be used to "pull" shows from the SA.

I don't think you can 'zipper' a SA, but it's easy enough to do without the cheater script.

He's saying the SA, as-is (no mods) can MRV with a zippered DTiVo. Seems like someone else indicated yes, that is the case.

"ZIPPERING" won't help you hack a stand alone tivo, it's a script made only for DirecTV TiVo's. You have to go to another board to learn how to do it, as I guess we can't talk about it here (but we can talk about hacking a directivo? I don't totally understand the policies of this board...)

Anyway, google "hacking your series2 in 2004" and you'll find the site.
