A friend of mine owns a small coffee shop and is looking at putting in a security camera. I have a series 1 and a series 2 TIVO boxes sitting with bad hard drives. My question is would it be possible to replace the hard drive with an image and use it as a DVR on the camera. I would think it would be possible, but just not sure. I have a 120 gb hard drive not being used that I could put in, and since I have everything it seems like the cheap way to do this. Dedicated surveillance DVR’s and the time lapse VCR’s aren’t the cheapest things. Thanks for help.

The series 1 can be used for this, not the series 2, unless you want to pay for a subscription. The camera must send a color signal or else the TiVo won't record it. You'll want to set up a series of recordings to cover 2, 3 or 4 hours each.

Tivo won't record a black/white signal?

I've connected a B&W security camera to a series 1 w/o any problem, but the same camera won't work with a series 2.

We have seen a number of people report problems with B+W cameras and TiVos, both S1 and S2. The TiVo complains that there is no video signal. Our theory is that the TiVo insists on the chroma signal.

Thanks for all the help. I figured it would work but thought I would ask before going through the trouble.
