View Full Version : Changing setup with phone connection
I want to change my input from satellite to Freeview but TiVo setup won't allow this without a phone connection. I no longer subscribe to TiVo but find my TiVo still useful. Is it possible to change setup without a subscription?
Thankyou

I suspect it won't be possible, as TiVo will not know what channels Freeview provides without dialling up. Someone more in-the-know may be able to figure out a way to do it though.

I'm not sure but I can't see why you can't re-run Guided Setup without a sub. After all, it's not usually sub'd when you first run it :)

Shouldn't you be able to run it, get the channel set for a particular source (Freeview in this case), but just not get any programme data?
Do you not ring up CS to subscribe before you do a guided setup when you first get the unit?
Thanks for the replies. I may have made a mistake by deleting my previous setup, the dialogue where you have to press "thumbs down" three times but I couldn't see another way to change the source of my signal. Now I'm stuck in the screen where TiVo is trying to make a phone call.

Is it refusing to make the call as there is no subscription?
It can't make a call because I have no phone line attached :-)
I'm going to try now with the line connected if that is really necessary. I can't see a choice.

This surprises me, I may be that stupid but I didn't think the TiVo would connect. I haven't had a sub for over a year but it is now going through the procedure of importing. I'll let you know if it succeeds.

It may be that it'll just download the channel list, and the EPG will then be full of 'To Be Announced' or generic data.
Connecting the line TiVo has gone through the setup no problems at all. Though it is so many years since I originally did this. Thanks for the help but I really didn't think a connection would be made with a sub.

The display is back to what it was. When you stop subscribing you get no info at all, no epg of course and nothing on screen. Even the clock loses time. In a year mine lost 15 mins. Perhaps with the line now connected the clock will be synchonised. All programmes have to be recorded manually. But even so I find TiVo and its remote still the easiest way to view, pause, speed up watching anything and in 24 hours I was already missing it.
