Why would you want to do that, even if it were possible?

I've asked the same question myself. I want to leverage full TiVo - TTG, HMO, etc etc but I don't want to ditch DTV dual tuners until the S3 or the Comcast TiVo comes out. S2's are not expensive and when I do upgrade to Cable they will become more valuable.

I know you can hack the DTiVo but I don't need MRV yet, I particularly want TTG and the more recent downloaded content all of which need a real TiVo. I'm also curious about Kid Zone for my daughter.

Get another receiver, simple as that.

What he said. Then you'd have three tuners. :D

but i've already got a total of 10 tuners now. (all my receivers are tivos) why would i want to downgrade my Dtivio to a basic receiver? you'd think if Tivo were gonna take the time to list all the brand name satellite receivers, and codes, they'd atlest list the codes for their own.

Two options:

1) Hack it to gain TTG functionality, but you'll have to go elsewhere to find out how.

2) Hack both the DTiVo and the SA and MRV shows to the SA, then use TTG.

To make full use of a standalone TiVo.

TTG = Tivo To Go? I already have that on the standalone Tivo.

I'd do number 2 if it were easy enough, but i don't anything about linux.

Even if you could control a DirecTV DVR with a standalone TiVo and have it output the tuner you need/want, you'd be wasting the capability of the DirecTV DVR. Doing this is just plain counter productive.

It is easy and doesn't require a lot of linux knowledge.

What it DOES require is:

1) An older SA TIVo, the newer 540 series won't work without a hardware mod.

2) A LOT of reading and time to figure it out, but it's fairly easy. Make a backup, or what I've done is just set the stock drive asside untouched in case I screw it up.

I don't know if there's a 'cheater script' such as the "Zipper" for the SA, but your better off doing it from scratch in my opinion so you kind of have an idea how the thing works and what to do if it breaks..

If you're talking about hacking the (non R10) DirecTivos, then try The Zipper (http://www.tivocommunity.com/tivo-vb/showthread.php?t=265929)

In about an hour you'll be fully hacked, no Linux expertise needed.
