Hi all,

Newbie Paul here.

My Tivo appears to have died!!!

The fan spins at the back and the green light is on at the front, but no output from the scart (or RF). I have called Tivo Customer Services, they suggested I ask on here as there may be someone local to me (Cheltenham) that may be able to help confirm the problem for me or maybe even help to repair it. I suspect it is the hard disk as I cannot hear it spinning, but am not sure

Please message me, If anyone can help me I would be eternally grateful!!!

Thanks in advance

Paul

Hi Paul,

It does sound like a drive problem, or maybe a disconnected drive.

Have you tried checking the drive cables?

I suspect it is the hard disk as I cannot hear it spinning, but am not sureIf it does turn out to be the hard disk, what you might not realize (if you don't come here often) is that you can buy ready made TiVo disks. All you'll have to do is open the box and drop the new drive in and do a guided setup. You also have the advantage of being able to get a larger drive in the process. I upgraded this way (via blindlemon who sells 'em) to 250GB (6 times the size of the original). He can even pre-install all of the network drivers, so that if you read on this forum all the amazing things you can do when your TiVo is networked, all you'll have to do is buy the network card (again blindlemon provides them too) and drop that in. You'll avoid a lot of fiddling about putting your drive in your PC and installing stuff in weird places using weird (unix   ;) ) commands.

I got the drive from blindlemon (exceptional service I may add) with the cachecard, tivoweb, and mode 0 installed. It came today (only ordered yesterday!!) and my beloved machine is now back and work and now with a whopping 250Gb of space. Instructions are dead easy to follow, only query is, how do I change modes and stuff, on tivoheaven site it mentions a sequence of buttons on the remote, but I have no detail of these. It's not an urgent request but would like to know at some point. The next thing on my list is the cachecard and I am sure I will be going back to tivoheaven to purchase that too!!!!
