Look neat. Still wonder if it will record the shows we request.

While were at it, here's an article & photos of the new HR20 (http://gear.ign.com/articles/679/679224p1.html) which debuted at CES 2006.
These thumbnails (http://media.gear.ign.com/articles/679/679224/imgs_1.html) link to hi-rez photos of the HR20 (showing the back of the unit as well).

The device features two DirecTV inputs, two ATSC tuners, one satellite in, an HDMI input, a component input, a composite input, and a digital/coaxial out.
Argh! That just can't be right. I am thinking the author does not know a guzinta from a guzouta.

Have you ever heard of a "concept" car? That's what this is. A one-off laboratory curiousity. The off-the-shelf 4 and 5-bay button rows and the home-made flat front panel are dead giveaways that this will never see the inside of any of our HTs.

What does this have to do with TiVo? Why is this in the TiVoCommunityforum??

Well, this is actually the HD Tivo forum area, and the HD Tivo is currently only available to DTV subs, plus, each and every one of us who are subs or are strongly considering becoming subs will be looking for a solution to the hard cold fact that there will be no HD Tivo available to us very soon. The HR10-250 was the first, the best, the worst, and the last DTV HD Tivo, and it is going away, probably this year. That makes any discussion here about possible replacements relevant, in my view. But then this beast is hardly an answer.

"It also boasts two USB 2.0 ports for future connectivity. "
Phew, if D* got rid of those, I was going to jump ship for sure!

If you look at the investor presentation given by D* in February, it seems that this is more than just a concept car. Check out the link here (http://media.corporate-ir.net/media_files/irol/12/127160/FINALSlidesInvestorDay2-22-06.pdf). Look at slide 35...

It's just a concept car. They have now said repeatedly that the HR20 (regular HD DVR) won't be out until late this year. I doubt they'll be working on something with a far far smaller target user base until the HR20 is released.
And then they'll need to fix all the bugs in the HR20. And seeing how "fast" they're fixing the R15, I wouldn't hold your breath to see this "concept car" before 2008.
