I've read page 115 of the manual. It appears 0 is the univeral address and it says addresses 1 to 9 are unique. I'm thinking about adding another HDtivo to resolve some multiple HD conflicts and also get one while they are still available to own.
questions
1. Would I keep the original tivo on address 0 then just put the new one at address 1 or is it best to move to an address 1/2 configuration? These would be my only 2 units.
2. Currently I use a sony vl 900 (http://www.remotecentral.com/vl900/index.html) and use system buttons 1 and 3 for the HDtivo and T60 respectively. I'm assuming once the original peanuts change to either 0/1 or 1/2 (depending on your answer to my first question), it's just a matter of pointing the respective remotes at each other like a did before to program them. I use have buttons customized so have to do things the long way, but dont mind :)

0 is universal and controls all. I set my stacked units as 1 and 6 respectively and had perfect success.

1. you will need to switch each to different address from 1-9.
2. yes, you will need to teach all commands for each address.

I have 3 TiVo's in my system.
Originally set them to 3,5, and 9 for the remote codes.
(why, I don't know, just to have them very seperated I guess).
Picked up a Harmony 880 and it took some trial and error to get it to control the TiVo's independantly.
I had to change the remote codes to 1, 2 and 3, for some reason the 880 didn't like the spread out codes, it likes them sequential I guess.
Changed some stuff around in my cabling yesterday, so had to change some "Activities" and the remote forgot how to turn the TiVo's on and off, so back to the drawing board with setup, test, setup, test.
Finally I think I have it working the way I want it to, but it took some headscratching to get there.

I sure hope mine would not be that complex. I figured if i got the addressing thing right to separate them, it's just a matter of pointing and shooting for each button.
thing is, it wont be as obvious which tivo i'd be on anymore as when you press list, the sony has a different color list then the hdtivo :)

The tricky part is understanding that the code can accidentally change if you are on the system info screen and pick up either remote, although the instructions make it seem as if the codes can only change after a particular button sequence is pressed on the remote you are dedicating to the first box. What that means is if you set the code on one unit, be sure to exit the system info screen before you try to set the next code for the second box, or it will change both. Never go to the info screen on one unit and then try to pick up the second remote to access the second Tivo, either. The info screen is an open door to resetting the code, and any stray Tivo remote codes it picks up while on that screen will change it, usually to exactly the code you are already using on the other box.

Actually, the code for the Harmony don't have to be sequential, but the Harmony doesn't like addresses above 5 (if I remember correctly).

they really should warn you that the info screen is so open like that. I guess they figure no one stacks.
I'll be sure to only have it on one unit at a time
