Have any of you ever had this problem???

I came home from work today and my Tivo screen said "Welcome. Powering up." I waited a few hours and the screen said the same thing. I called the Tivo customer service center and spoke with a representative who advised me this was a bug in their product that happens all the time. My only course of action was to either go and purchase another box or send in my box for repair because my box is no longer covered under warranty at a cost of $149.99.

I have purchased a box for myself, for my brother and for my parents. If I would have known they have a bug, I would have never considered purchasing all the boxes.

I spoke with a superviser who advised me this was caused by the "environment." I asked what that means and he said "You know the environment, surroundings and stuff."

I cannot have been more disappointed in the situation. What a load of baloney.

Has anybody else ever experienced this problem?

Matt, I bet if you do a search on your problem here you'll find a lot of people who have discussed it and you'll find the fix for it, and what to do about it. I'm not a CSR (thank my lucky stars) so I don't know if it's "the environment". I've seen people talking about it and it's something that can be repaired. Just do a search, you'll see.

Thanks OldTownTreadles. I did some searching and really did not find anything too helpful...Can you pass along a search suggestion. Thanks in advance.

Did you try unplugging it, waiting for the disk to spin down, then plugging it back in? That's always Step 1 with these things.

I did a search of your problem in google and this is what I found and it took me strait to Tivo with and answer. But since I can't post the link you'll have to search it. "Welcome. Powering up"

It's not a "bug" nor caused by "the environment" ... it's a sign that your hard drive may be failing. It's possible that the latest update exposed a pre-existing defect on the harddrive (in the alternate partition).

If it's under warranty, get it replaced.

You can also do it yourself fairly easily, either by dropping in a pre-formatted drive (e.g. from Weaknees) or doing it yourself.

Leaving it off for a few hours sometimes helps ... don't ask me why.

If you're willing to take a few risks, you can try some of these procedures:

Sounds like a hard drive thing.
