Here's the problem I am having.

Sometimes the whole signal drops out and I don't get any channels at all. But sometimes I will get all channels but the HD ones. The regular channels will come in just fine but when I try to go on the HD channels, it says searching for signal.

Technicians have been here twice. They've checked and changed connections, the LNB on the dish twice and the mulit-switch. They told me the last thing it could be is the receiver. That's possible right?

Both tuners have gone out at the same time. And both at separate times. It seems to be mostly satellite signal 2 though.

What would be wrong with the receiver??

It's possible your HR10 is bad. Have you tried running the feeds directly from the dish to see if the problem still occurs? Also, go into the settings and check the signal strength of all the SATs. It could be your dish needs to be realigned.

Bypass the added multiswitch to see if it still happens. If not, replace the switch.

I have checked the signal strengths of the satellites and for the most part they are good. 90% and up. Sometimes I see them go from that good signal to 0 and back up again and fluctuate like that. Very quick bursts up and down. That is when it is having it's reception problems.

To JohnTivo- As far as running the feeds directly from the dish, what do you mean?? I had a tech install it and know nothing about it at all. I plead ignorance and do apologize. Not savvy at all like the lot of you.

To JimSpence- To bypass the switch I'll have to get all the way up on the roof and coonect the box up there?? I don't know if I can do that. You'll have to bear with my ignorance for a bit.

OK, once the new box comes and if it is still happening I am going to get to it and troubleshoot all I have to. And, hopefully, with a little help, I might be able to do it. If you can be patient?

But, I do hope it's just the receiver. So it is possible to just be the Hd DVR?

yes, it could be the receiver. loose internal connection or bad tuner. is it a recent install, if so keep going through directv or local install company as long as it's under warranty they should fix it.

when you check signal strenght are you checking all 3 sats a, b and c?

one other thing, are there any trees that might be in the way or say leafs starting to sprout/coming into bloom, limbs blowing in the way??

how many other receivers do you have and are they having trouble also.

Ok, then. DTV has changed the multi-switch twice. Replaced the receiver, replaced the dish even and still the same problem. I noticed something weird last night. Everything was going fine until I tried recording 2 HD channels at once. Then one tuner lost it's signal. When I set it to reset it to record 1 tuner to HD and the other to a SD channel, it was fine. Upon switching wires around, sat. in 1 to 2, and vice versa, problem seemed to fix itself. Could it be a faulty cable?

I did ask the guy who installed the new dish to run 2 new cables but he refused saying it wasn't on his work order. I knew he was being an idiot. I know full well when something is set up as an INSTALL, which my new dish was put in the system as install, it was set up that way for that purpose, so I could have new cables run. I wasn't in the mood to argue. I've been having the worst week anyway. (car accident, insurance claims, no one wants to pay...) After everything else has been changed I can't think of anything else.

Let me mention something weird, if I may, that I also noticed. Later on in the evening, with the cables in the original positon, where I couldn't record 2 HD channels at the same time, I noticed that if 1 tuner was on an HD channel and I was just watching live HD it would be ok, until I went on channel 80(CBS HD). That would make the HD signal on the opposite tuner go out. If I changed from 80 to 79(HD NET), the HD signal on the opposite tuner would come back in.

Again with wires reversed, this wouldn't happen.

Any clues?
