View Full Version : Lock-Ups with Black Screen...

My HR10-250 has been exhibiting lock-ups for the past couple of weeks.

About once a day, I will flip to the HR10-250, only to find a black screen on the TV (no input found) and the HR10-250 completely unresponsive to remove or front panel.

Unplugging and reboot clears it up for 12-18 hours until the next episode.

It makes the box VERY undependable for unattended recordings.

Shows it DOES record play back perfectly; there is no pixelization, stuttering, etc.

The unit has 2 320GB drives (added ~5 weeks ago) and is zippered.

I have disabled all of the hacks (except network access via telnet and ftp).... no affect on the problem.

Both drives check out fine with the WD diagnostics.

Any ideas?

Well, I may have found the culprit!!!

I knew that (besides Zippering and upping drive size) the only thing that had changed recently was the IDE cable in the unit.

I swapped it out when I Zippered because the OLD one looked very twisted and worn.

Trying to knock down the possibilities, I swapped in a known working IDE cable.

The unit has been stable and up without lock-ups for about a day and a half!!!

I'm going to add back in my hacks now and see... but I may be in the clear!

Rock stable for over a week now!

Looks like the IDE cable was defective and the culprit.

Thanks for sharing this. I've yet to hear of this particular problem, but I rest comfortably knowing there is a path to follow should I ever see this.

Define "zippered", please.

I'll also second the thanks for reporting back on your fix.. many times questions arise and noone ever reports back when they've fixed their problem.
