View Full Version : My HR10-250 is dying

Two years old, stutters, pixel-ates, freezes, reboots. The HD is toast.

Two questions:
1. Main concern is current recordings. When I get a replacement, can I still view my recordings on the old unit that will be deactivated? My hope is I can still view the recordings if the unit isn't on full time (and thus, adding more wear to the hard drive). The HR10-250 would last a lot longer that way.

2. I know all about this summer's Mpeg4 HD TiVO. I currently receive local HD channels via Comcast, so there is no rush to get the new unit, but if I can thread together my dying HR10-250 for a few more months, it would save me the $400 to replace it.

The question is: What about the new software in the Mpeg4 units? I am concerned it isn't TiVO, and I am equally concerned if it SUCKS as bad as the Comcast (Motorola) DVR. Anybody know how the new software compares? If it isn't up to TiVO standards, I will immediately replace the HR10-250 and wait until I HAVE to upgrade to Mpeg4.

I appreciate any help. :)

think you can watch anything that is already recorded. But if it is your HDD then it certianly could go out anytime and take your recordings with it.

as for compare to new unit there is no clue since it is not out yet.

IF you had the equipment protection plan, or added it to your account now, then it would be covered (after 30 days when it does go out completely) it would be covered by dtv.

Thanks. I am replacing the drive and copying the programming.

I guess we'll have to wait to see how the new software turns out.
