What was that line Dr. Webber used? "Back to bare essentials?" or something like that -- just realized the connection with what Christina did to get George out of the apartment. :)
Alex is right. The truth was the right way to handle it; maybe he could've found another gentler way, but it seemed his alone-time to discuss the subject with her was pretty limited.
I really don't see how anyone could set up house in a hospital and not be discovered pretty quickly; especially if it was possible to hear a ringing phone where Callie was from where George had retreated to.
It also appears George might've made the connection to what traumatized Meredith and led to her having sex with George, eventually ending in that disasterous moment. Now he just has to process it a bit.
Bummer - we have to wait 4 weeks for a new episode.

I don't know about the setting up house thing... from what I've seen of hospitals, they frequently have lots of disused or underused corners that you could probably hide away in and no one would notice. At least this was a bit more believable than on ER, the ending from last week that seemed to depict John Leguizamo's character setting up house in the doctor's lounge.

Damn. I was hoping Dr. Callie wasn't going to turn out to be a nutcase, but it certainly looks like they're heading in that direction. Of course, any woman who considers George to be her "McDreamy" has got some kinks upstairs. :)
So Meredith has two half-sisters and a half-brother and Mare Winningham as a stepmother. Let's hope they don't disappear after this episode. From what I hear, Chris O'Donnell definitely will be around as the veterinarian for a few episodes.

Uh-oh. George is my McDreamy! What does that say about me?!
I enjoyed this episode quite a bit. And Doug, it was "back to the basics" that the Chief told Christina.

Probably one of the better episodes I've seen.
I don't think she was weird for having living space in a hospital. If that's all she needs.. shrug.

Personally, I gotta say when Christina was talking about getting George out of the apartment and Meredith responded 'Well you could sleep with him, and than cry during the middle of it....' I laughed so hard. It was just so blunt and awful but at the same time funny. :D
I liked that Dr. Callie said that George was more to her than what he is to Izzie, Meredith and Christina.

Yeah, me too...he looks like he needs a bath. The nursing staff around there is really slacking off in the patient hygiene department.

If denny can take alex out with him then I would gladly see him killed off. I also like seeing george with callie much better than Merideth. It is kind of cool the nice guy finds a woman who appreciates him for who he is.

You do realize he's talking about a fictional character, and this wouldn't require the death of the real-live flesh and blood actor, don't you? :D

Really? Nah, I thought he was real.
Of course I realize its fictional. I still think its a pretty harsh way of putting it. So shush. :p

I like Callie... she's good for George. And, just 'cause she lives in the hospital doesn't necessarily mean she's a complete nutcase :D
I was glad to see that George took the initiative!

Maybe I'm just hormonal, but when Laurie Metcalf was giving her daughter advice, I cried great big gobby tears... I ended up pausing the tv and just crying for a few minutes.
My own mother died 10 years ago - I was older than that girl, but still I remember some of the same advice my mom gave me growing up and how much I miss that advice now.

My sister died a little over a month ago, leaving behind 3 kids right about the same age, and what Alex did to make sure that mother spoke to her daughter about it was absolutely right on the best thing to do.

In real life it would be the best thing to do. In the context of the TV show, a student ignoring the instructions of a teacher or an employee ignoring the order of a boss is not the right thing to do.

Ths episode was a great example of why this show is so good. I laughed out loud several times, I cried, the actors were all really good, and the characters stayed true to themselves.
The guest actors are almost always fantastic, not just stunt casting. Laurie Metcalf was wonderful, and I want to see more of Mare Winningham and Meredith's father. Mare's "roar" was priceless.
And I love Dr. Carrie.
And want to climb into Denny's bed with him.

Laurie Metcalf had me in tears - she is really a terrific actress.
I just love this show!

Absolutely.
I find posters in the West Wing threads, here and on other boards, don't always appreciate the difference between what works and what's the right thing to do in the context of a TV show has little or no relationship to what works or is the right thing to do in real life.

When someone says "I'm not crazy" twice in the span of 10 seconds.....I'm thinking, "Have sex with her and then run the hell away!"
Ooooh also- When Laurie Metcalf was talking about her sister, did she call her Aunt Rose?

Thanks for the Izzy photo (again). Always appreciated. :)
Another great episode. Alex has his mojo back, which means he's back to being an a-hole. Still, his advice was spot-on (and I maintain that would be true on both the show and in real life). And the scene between Laurie Metcalf and her daughter? Heartbreaking. I cried some very manly tears as I sat there watching the show with my 4-week old daughter sleeping on my chest.
I, too, think George is going to piece together what happened to Meredith prior the Incident in the Bed, and maybe get closer to forgiving her because of it. I have to admit, though, that when watching the "previously on" lead-in where they showed the scene where the Chief told George that he did look a lot like Thatcher made me go "Ewww" fairly loudly. I had forgotten about that, and that makes their aborted lovemaking attempt even more icky considering it came right after Meredith confronted her dad. Ewww.
I cracked up when Mer told Yang how to get rid of George. Hilarious, in a brutal way.
Finally, kudos again to the actor playing Thatcher. He says so many things with his eyes that they almost don't need to give him any dialogue.

This was an awesome episode. I agree with what everyone else posted. Great acting, great dialog.
I do like Callie. I hope she sticks around. I think she's good for George. Just wish she would give Izzy a break. I think Izzy has George's best interests at heart.

Thatcher is being played by the fabulous Jeff Perry, a co-founder of Chicago's legendary Steppenwolf Theatre Company (http://www.steppenwolf.org/) (along with Terry Kinney and Gary Sinise). History here (http://www.steppenwolf.org/backstage/history/index.aspx).
I 'discovered' Jeff through his work on Nash Bridges, and have seen him in several of his guest-star spots (on Chicago Hope, CSI, The West Wing, etc.).
A favorite scene on Nash was where Joe is trying to set up a blind date for Nash, and tries to arrange a time for when Nash picks the woman up. Harvey (Jeff Perry) is listening. You may be thinking, "WTF? you don't pick someone up on a blind date." So was I -- and so was Harvey. When it was time for his line, Harvey says the obvious -- you don't pick someone up for a blind date, you go in separate cars, so you can leave if the date doesn't work out.
Just as you said, the dialogue wasn't necessary -- it was so obvious what Harvey was thinking, just from Jeff's face.
I am so happy when I see Jeff's name in the credits. I hope the sub-plots with Thatcher take a LONG time to play out.
P.S. the Steppenwolf site lists Jeff's recent small-screen work thusly:
Actor
Grey's Anatomy(ABC); Lost(FOX); Invasion(NBC); Law & Order; The Practice (ABC); The West Wing (NBC); CSI (CBS); ER (NBC); NYPD Blue (ABC); Nash Bridges (CBS); My So Called Life (ABC); Chicago Hope (CBS); Into Thin Air (ABC); Lansky (HBO); Brooklyn Bridge (CBS); Thirtysomething (ABC); Kingfish.
Director
My So-Called Life (ABC).

I gotta say... I was about to give up on this show until this episode. Just didn't get what everyone saw in this show about a bunch of characters that annoy the crap out of me.
This ep had some great moments in it and the whinyness seemed to be toned down a bit which is exactly what this show needed.
Now I find out that I have to wait nearly a month to get a new ep?? WTF?? :(

I've lost track of the number of times this has happened to me.
I see a really fine performance on TV from an actor I haven't seen much of before.
I say "Holy crap, who is this person? Where did they come from?"
And the answer is: they're theatre actors. Of course.
Superb performance by Laurie Metcalf -- if you're tallying up the number of people who have lost their moms and had to fumble for the tissues while watching that scene, count me in, too.
