I have Soprano's set up as a SP to record on HBOH. Came home and saw it did not record. Went to recording history under pick programs to record, it was listed there as not recorded. Selected it and saw this error message. "program not recorded due to recorder internal error:4"
Anyone else know what this means or have seen this before?

I get that when a program isn't recorded due to the "Channels not available" flakyness. Its also supposed to be what happens if guide data changes at the wrong time.

I've gotten it 2x...i think someone said it's bad indexing or something but dont feel like searching at the moment (plus you can't search on one character anyway??). definitely reboot if you didn't already...appears to somehow fix it.

Got the internal error 4 last night. also couldn't play recorded content. just kept going back to the tivo screen. rebooted, took forever to download sat data to get going again.
wonder if this has anything to do with 6.3?

How can it be connected to 6.3 if it hasn't been deployed yet?

You only knew it was a matter of time before someone blamed something on 6.3. Congratulations I think you are the winner.

I was fervently hoping that 6.3 might cure all this sillyness. However D* is going to become irrelevant when my S3 arrives.

Anyone else get this error when trying to record the Season Premiere of CSI? And as far as I can tell, there are no repeats of that episode either. Talk about bad timing!

Got this error for the first time last night (I've had the Tivo since the first month they came out). I was trying to record Gray's Anatomy. Luckily there is a repeat tonight.

I got this (and it crashed my system) the night I had a group over to watch the Survivor premiere. (We watched it the next night off of Google video.)

It was also the first night of 6.3 downloading, but my Tivo was hung. I might have received it but for the crash.

This is a horrible bug.

The only time I had an error 4 message was during last weekends Starz free preview. I had set up a recording of An Unfinished Life for 9pm Saturday. However, Direct TV Starz subscribers were treated (?) to an early showing of Chicken Little at that same time. So An Unfinished Life did not record because of "error 4."
Now jump ahead to next weekend. My To Do List showed my recording of Narnia... at 9pm Saturday but for some reason the channel number (520) was not displayed. Out of curiosity I went to record by channel and when I got to the screen listing Narnia at 9pm on Starz it did not show the options of "cancel this recording" or "record as planned". It was as if the recording wasn't scheduled. I had a feeling that if I had done nothing I would have gotten another "error 4" message so I went back to the To Do List, cancelled the recording and reset the recording. Now the channel # was listed in the To Do List and it was recorded.
My suggestion, look through your To Do List, if an item is listed without a channel number you may want to do the same. Or, if you're at home when the recording is about to start, do nothing and see if it's recorded. If it doesn't start recording you'll at least be there to watch it live.

I got it for the first time last night.

Trying to record CSI Miami and Studio 60, about halfway through both.

Went to watch something and it kept dumping me back to the main menu,
tried a couple different now playing shows, same thing.

Then I tried the shows that were recording, and it locked up.
Rebooted and it took a while to get whatever it gets from the satellites.

Both shows, even though halfway through, weren't even in the NP list as partial recordings, nor did they start recording upon bootup like my SA S2 will do.

Started a manual recording of CSI Miami since I had the beginning of the show on my R10, at least I'd get to see half in HD, it took about 5 minutes of "Please Wait" before it actually started recording.

All seems to be well now.
Still on 3.??, no pending restart or forcing of calls.

I just got it again yesterday, and my machine stopped recording. Luckily for me, I found it and restarted before any of the new shows started.

I narrowed it down to one season pass - for our local news (it had been the offender the previous time also). I went to the entry in the To Do list and the Tivo restarted immediately, so when the Tivo came back up I deleted the SP. Oddly, my SP for Survivor also disappeared.

I'm hopeful it was a malformed SP, and now that it's deleted I won't see this anymore.

So do you mean that the problems you were having give you the 'internal error:4' message when you go to the recording history?

If so, I wonder if I should eliminate all of my SPs and start over.

By the way, when I talked to DTV's second level support, they said they had never heard of internal error:4 . Their only solution would be to wipe the hard drive and reinstall everything.

got this one again last night as well. recording prison break and heros over the air. i was trying to 30s skip through commercials and it booted me out to the main menu. no matter what selection i made, it just displayed the same menu again. went to live tv using the guide button and started to rewind to the place i left off. when i got there it crashed and rebooted. luckily i was recording in on a different dtivo as well. it did try and start recording the rest of the shows, but at that point it was only a miniut left or so.
to me it seems that i have more problems when i'm recording 2 hd ota shows.

i was refering to the long download time, not the actual rebot.

Yes - nothing recorded after the incident, so I backed up in the recording history. The Nightly News, which caused the problem, was listed as "Not recorded because of an internal error -4" and subsequent recordings were listed as "Not recorded because the satellite was unavailable or the recorder was turned off" or something similar.

I got the error on a manual recording of a LIL. It was OK after, but I don't know if it rebooted in the meantime.

I got this error the other day. It was supposed to record Firefly on Universal HD. Went to go watch it and not there. Looked in the history and saw that it did not record because of this error. Really sucks since they are not replaying that episode. :(

I got the same error for the same show. I'm pretty sure it was due to D* removing and then re-adding UHD that day.

if you are going to do this, you might as well do a clear and delete To Do list and SP and let tivo rebuild the database.

it saves all programs you recorded but you need to enter all SP and To Do back in
