I've had an old Sony SVR-2000 for years, recently bought a Toshiba DVD unit...the picture quality on my old Sony is noticeably better than the Toshiba.

Normally I record with the Sony at the "medium" setting...even when I bump the Toshiba to the next higher quality level, the Sony still has a better picture.

I think the Toshiba is trying much too hard to increase contrast and sharpness...the Sony picture looks much smoother, a bit brighter, and has better (less) contrast (the Toshiba has too much, IMHO).

I was wondering if the Humax would have any better picture quality than the Toshiba?

Thanks...

We have both a Humax and Toshiba and see no difference... of course, we're not TV display aficianods... recorded with VCR and OTA for years... with static, etc.

Around the boards here are various posts pertaining to different hook ups and settings, so maybe a different configuration or setting could improve things. Or try a different TV.

I was disapointed with my Humax DVD unit I tried back in '04. IMO the image quality just isn't as good as a regular Tivo. The prevailing theory seems to be that it's having to use DVD compatible resolutions that aren't as well suited for what Tivo is doing.

(My regular non-DVD Humax looks normal like a regular Tivo. IMO Medium looks better than Best on the DVD units.)

EDIT: Meant to say back in '04, not '94 :D
