Sorry guys, I just did a search and couldn't find anything about this, but I just called up DirecTV and tried to activate my HDTivo (my second one), and they told me that I was going to be re-contracted for another 2 years??? Is this true? Or is there a way around this? If that's the case, I'll just return the HDTivo that I just bought.
TIA
Sam

Did you buy it before 2-28, and therefore own the box?
If so, call them back and let them know, if the person you are talking to can't help, ask for a supervisor.
The CSR's are stuck in lease mode and can't wrap their brains around people actually owning the equipment.

Actually, I just bought the box yesterday, but I do own it, I didn't lease it or anything. So I do not have to be recontracted? Thanks for the speedy reply

Depends on where you bought it.
If it was from a Best Buy type place or other "authorized DirecTV retailer", then you really didn't buy it.

So I spent 400 dollars on a Direct Tivo (at Best Buy), and I really didn't buy it? So I DO have to recontract for 2 years if I wanted to activate this receiver?
thanks for the info Phox

So, if I go to Best Buy (or wherever) drop $500 on the HD-DVR I don't own it? Or is it the same as it always was that you activate for a certain period of time or they bill you $249 or whatever?
Lest face it, if I don't activate it what are they going to do show up at my house and take it back?
