In the past couple of weeks or so, some programs are only being partially recorded. It stops recording 6 to 9 minutes before the end of a program.

But it then records the next program successfully. Today, the next program was on the same channel immediately after the end of the first (partial) one.

Any ideas? Thanks, Allen

Have you tried rebooting?

More info than you probably want to know. (http://www.tivocommunity.com/tivo-vb/showthread.php?t=283908&page=1&pp=30)

An update - we have a pretty good idea of what is happening, as well as how to resolve it in the next software release. If you should happen to run into this issue, it does appear that a single reboot of the box will fix things in the meantime.

There was one report of a clip happening after a reboot, but upon closer inspection it appears that it was unrelated to what has been reported in this thread.

The online applications are provisioned via the service - there is no software update, none of the bits on the box change. While we appreciate the detail people are providing, they're not connected.

Overlap Protection also is a red herring from what we've learned. Although the result is a clipped program, this issue is not related to the Overlap Protection feature.

We apologize for any inconvenience you may have run into, but a single reboot (either hard or soft) should get things working for you as expected, and the next release will address this permanently.

Thanks again for all of the detailed information you've shared with us, it is appreciated.

Cheers,
Pony

There is also info on the support site at http://customersupport.tivo.com/knowbase/root/public/tv1072.htm?

The reboot will fix the issue for the short term and the software update will cure it permanently.

None of the items in the link you provided apply in my cases.

I rebooted and will watch it for a while.

Thanks, Allen

The first "note" in the article states:
There is a known problem that only affects DVRs with software version 7.2.1. The end of recordings may be cut off improperly if the DVR has not been restarted within the past few months. If you believe this is the problem, restarting the DVR will solve the problem until your DVR receives the new version of TiVo software, version 7.2.2. To restart your DVR, see How Do I Restart or Powercycle the DVR? If you would like to receive the new TiVo software sooner, you can sign up for the priority list at tivo.com/priority.

I'm running 7.2.1. If the reboot solves tyhe problem, I'll wait for 7.2.2. I tend to shy away from beta releases which priority implies.

Any idea when it will be officially released?

The 7.2.2. release is NOT a beta release. It HAS BEEN OFFICIALLY RELEASED. The priority list is merely for people who want to receive that update (and the subsequent software and functionality enhancements) more quickly.

It should be rolled out to all Series 2 users soon.

hitbyatrain is correct. We are already rolling out the software. The priority list just allows customers the chance to get it sooner once they realize it's available.

Aside from fixing this problem, the Recently Deleted folder (along with One Button Deletion) has been a big reason to request the update instead of waiting for it.

I have the partial recording problem and have tried restarting the TIVO, but after pressing thumbs-down three times and enter, it will not continue. I keep getting the reject sound. Any ideas?

Unplug it, count to 10, then plug it back in.

Phox's method is guaranteed to work...

But since you are a new poster, I just have to ask:

Are you on the "Restart the recorder" screen?

And I have to ask....

Are you pressing ENTER (as opposed to SELECT)?

I have the HR10-250 and I have done a software reboot with no luck. Just missed Simpsons tonight with a partial recording time of 0 minutes. I have system software version 6.3a-01-2-357. Anyone?

I am officially pissed and ready to drop DTV. I missed the final Prison Break tonight. This after missing the previous episode as well. Both with a 0 length programming time. Even had my son check the recording as I was at work. Said it was recording showing a partial time (as it should.) Got home after 9 and see the 0 partial recording time. Enough of this crap!
