View Full Version : My tivo is lying about space.
"This program will not be recorded either because there is not enough space now or there will not be enough space when it is scheduled to be recorded (based on current projections)."
That is the common message given to me when I look in my recording history to see why programs aren't being or weren't recorded.
I was away on business for 10 weeks and while gone my tivo hit it's limit the last week i was out and stopped making space for programs because I keep about 6 different one hour programs until they're deleted. So when I got home last week, I watched/deleted a lot of programs but tivo still tells me that due to current projections it won't record certain programs. How would one go about making it create new projections? I do not want to clear my thumb data or season passes and start from scratch as i do not have hours to spend doing this for 40 different passes.
Any ideas?

It will recalculate on its own after a couple of hours.
You're using "Keep Until I Delete" too much, for reasons which at this moment must be obvious to you. Use it sparingly for programs you know you're going to want to keep for a long time and you'll never see this problem again.

If you think this is abnormal behavior, you can always reboot the system.
However, it may be that you've set so many things to "keep until I delete" that your TiVo will run out of space if you do not delete programs in the future. TiVo will automatically update itself upon your deletion of these programs.
Also, what quality are you recording in? Try changing the recording quality to a lower setting, as different settings can have drastic effects on your TiVo's capacity.

It's been a week. It hasn't recalculated. I don't really think you can use keep until i delete too much. All the shows I "keep until I delete" are things that are on in prime time and not syndicated. therefore if i'm not able to watch them and they get deleted, I have to wait months to see them and if they have a story line.... then it just ruins it for me.

Try making a small change in the season pass manager to force it to recalculate.

Yeah, I think it's abnormal as well and after a week of trying to figure it out on my own, I've turned to this forum. All the shows I record are medium quality.
If I hadn't been gone for 10 weeks, this wouldn't have been an issue.

I have. I also have added and deleted some shows, changed recording quality for a few season passes, restarted the tivo, manualy deleted things from the todo list to see if other things would take there place, and talked with tivo customer support. Noone has told me how to get around this without having to delete all my season passes and start over.
