I am moving into a new house. They don't have anything but comcast, so I am getting comcast regular cable with the box so I can get on demand and such.

I'll also be ordering Tivo in the next couple days. (the $155 1/yr deal)
Is there a way to get Tivo to see OnDemand and get those channels, or am I just stuck with 2 devices?

I have the same setup and unless there is another way around it, you'll be stuck with the Tivo box and the Comcast box.
You'll be able to have the features of TIVO and Ondemand...

You'll more than likely set up your TiVo to control the cable box. In fact, when setting up boxes in this situation for family members, I find everything works much, much better when the cable box remote is hidden from them.

However, your TiVo will be able to record the ondemand channels, but of course, you'll need to use the cable box remote to order them.

Check with COMCAST. They offer a DVR that will do everything you want.

It's not a TiVo.

Then who wants it?

Not me!

You'll also most likely have to use the IR blasters to control the cable box, even if your box has a serial port. I was most dissapointed when I moved from Cox to Comcast and I had to buy new IR cables :(

Unless everything you want includes mulit-room viewing and TiVoToGo.

The OP didn't mention anything about multi-rrom viewing and TiVoToGo did they ?

Most people have a DVR connected to the main TV in the house and that's where they sit down and watch TV.

The OP didn't provide much detail except that they had chosen to purchase TiVo. How do you know what the OP wants other than DVR capability and On Demand? It makes sense to point out features that TiVo has that the cable DVR doesn't.

It also makes sense to point out that the cable DVR has dual-tuners and is HD capable. This may or may not be important to the OP.

Also, if the OP hasn't ordered that TiVo, it might make sense to wait a couple of weeks for the dual tuner TiVo to be released. I certainly would not purchase a new TiVo right now with a new hardware expected any day now.

But the hardware expected any day now, will have a contract period that runs until well after the next new hardware (Series 3) is expected. I think I'd wait for the Series 3 at this point. If you need a PVR for a few months, the commitment-free cable company box may be your best bet while you wait.

I depends on whether or not HD is important to the OP. If HD is not important, then the Series 2 Dual Tuner model would be good purchase. If HD is important, then I agree with you.

Besides HD, the series 3 also adds the ability to tune any and all cable channels you subscribe to, on both tuners, with no cable box and IR/serial fuss, external disk expansion, and maybe other goodies. I'd have a tough time committing to an interim box with the new box coming out this year. Admittedly we have no idea of the price or service plans but at this point, I'd wait and see.

It also depends on what your price point is. The new S2 DT, or whatever it will be called, isn't expected to cost much more that the current S2. The S3 may be double the cost, but no one really knows. Since I already have two TiVo's, I am personally planning on waiting for the S3.
