I have a Sony series one tivo lifetime service system upgrade states 3.01.... My internal modem was fried during an electrical storm Tivo tries to make call with message no dial tone. I purchased an external modem, U.S. Robotics connected it to my serial connection with the standard connection that is hard wired to the Robotics modem. Chenged dialing prefix ,#319, set the two call features to off. When I try to call in I get message "Modem not responding". If I put the modem in my series two using same phone cord connection same setup it works fine. Two questions here. What will it cost to fix my Tivo and I it is too expensive can I transfer mr lifetime subscription. Currently I own three Tivos including the broken one with lifetime subs. You answers will be appreciated. Also if repairable where would the best place to take the unit??

Go to www.9thtee.com.

On the left side of the screen click on - TiVo upgrades, on the next screen on the left side click on- Modem repair. Scroll down past the external modem stuff.

If you can do surface mount soldering yourself they have repair kits you can buy. If not they list a place to send it to be repaired for $40-$60.

I've bought repair kits and fixed 3 TiVos with broken modems myself.

You can have the modem repaired for about $100 (www.digitalrecorder.com). If you have broadband internet you can instead add a network card to the unit and connect up with TiVo via the internet. This alternative would be a bit cheaper.

I went with the network card when switching to Vonage, I tried all of the dialing combinations on my series 1 to no avail. The card installed in seconds and I was on my way.
