Save to VCR saves icon to screen

When I use the save to VCR option on my DirecTV DVR it saves an icon in the lower left corner of the screen that looks like a VCR tape with the letters REC on top of it. This icon is visible on any recorded media.

Does anyone know how to remove this icon? It is really irritating!

Usually the botton only pops up when you are trying to stop playing as a warning.

Yes I have seen it. But, only when trying to stop the show or hit the "live" button or something else that would stop the recording. When I did see it though, it went away after a few seconds (and frankly I do not recall if it was on the recording or not).

My suggestion was to hit the "clear" button...to see if that would make it go away. Perhaps the TiVo needs to take a nap (re-boot it). I have not seen what you describe stay on the screen for an entire recording and also be on the recording itself.

Once you start the 'Save to VCR', take the batteries out of the peanut remote or put your hand over the end of it so that no signal is being sent out - does the little icon go away? If it does then it sounds like a stuck key on the remote.

I could also be that the DVR is getting an IR signal from something/somewhere and it thinks you are hitting keys on the remote.

Also try covering up the area on the front panel where the IR signal is sensed - does that little icon go away after a few seconds?

Now THAT could have some potential. Perhaps time to pull out the digital camera and use the "view screen" to look for the IR beam (thanks litzdog).
