This morning I noticed the sony had searching sat 1. (HDtivo was fine both tuners) I had to leave for work but stayed long enough to reboot and that didn't fix it. 4 hours later, I called home and found out that everything was fine.

It hasn't rained in my area in about 2 weeks so I dont think it could be water getting in the lines/connections, though I guess condensation is a possiblity with 20s at night and 40s in the day?

Any other reason why a tuner would just go out like that then clear up a few hours later?

Swap the inputs and see if the problem moves to Sat In 2. Make sure all connections are secure.

me thinks I need to ensure everything is waterproofed also. I think someone wrote that radioshack? had some special coax sealer.

RS does carry some water proof sealer but you can do just as well with any good grade of silicon window sealer.

Be sure that whatever you use drys flexible so you can cut it off if you later need to.

It could be on a channel that's not transmitting anything, I've had that before. A few horus later it changes the channel and viola it's working again.

You also may have a weak enough signal on certain transponders, preventing some channels from coming in sometimes.

nope all signals in 90s and flipped through the locals and had them on hdtivo but not T60 tuner 1. I think it's just a mystery.
