I'm Thinking about DHCP and I am sure there has to be a way to connect to your Tivo using telnet, ftp, twp, etc without going to the router setup to get info from the DHCP table.
Doing a search on DHCP, Gunny mentioned something about a host file. I was wondering what a host file is, If this is useful to my wonderings, where I can get more info?

This is absolutely not an answer to your question about the host file. But if you are DHCP'ing your Tivos IP, why not do static DHCP through the router? I've found that is the easiest way to let the Tivo continue to DHCP, but have a static address. You just need to go into the router setup and do a static IP address pointing to that particular NIC. The NIC for your Tivo will continue to think it is getting a DHCP'd IP, but the router will always give it the same address.

Good thought, I'll have to dig around some more in my router settings.

I use Static IP through my router and it works great, but is there a place to change the Host name on my S2 DTivo running 6.2? It currently shows up in my router as: 3010000C0519BF3

Not all routers allow you to do that. :(

But isn't that info comming from the Tivo? My computer Name is MIKE - and the Host name in the Router is MIKE. Is there a setting on the Tivo to change the Host Name?

If you have a router that is different from the ones listed (and it supports static DHCP), post a screen shot of the appropriate setup page, and I'll add it to the comments.
