Philips DSR704 is ill

I picked up this DSR704 on eBay last week. It gets the "Welcome, Powering Up" screen, the lights blink at about 50 seconds then once it came up to acquiring sat signal. I hit the Now Playing, and it rebooted. After that, it was only "Welcome" forever.

I downloaded the v.3.1.1b file from Stan for this device and loaded it. The first startup, it hung on Powering Up. The second time, it came all the way up to error 51. I selected the C&D and it immediately rebooted and hung on Powering Up.

Now, sometimes I get the "Almost There" screen followed by the "green screen", then it reboots in a few seconds. Most other times, I don't see the lights blink at 50 seconds and it hangs on Powering Up.

Before I buy a new image and/or hard drive, any ideas on whether the system board is any good? I also have a Hughes HDVR2 that's working great (DVD4ME!) if there are any options like copying one image over to the other one temporarily for testing purposes.
