Followed the Weaknees custom instructions for the HR10-250. Used the suggested MFS Tools lba boot CD image from the WeaKnees site. Copying the original drive took 36 hours with the command.
mfsbackup -Tao - /dev/hdc | mfsrestore -s 127 -r 4 -xzpi - /dev/hdb
There were a few errors reported during the copying process, but I'm assuming that retries on those sectors were probably successful. At the end of the process the new drive supposedly had 580 hours availble.
Upon installing the new drive, the system hangs at "Almost there. A few more seconds please." Waited over 2 hours, in case there was some kind of drive reorganization going on.
The original drive still boots without any problems.
Any suggestions?
Thanks in advance.

Your swap file needs to be at least 250 instead of 127 and then you will need to run tpip after restoring to initialize the increased swap size. Better do some more reading at the top of this forum.

You might try the restore and leave out the "-r 4" command. I had a similar problem with and Hr10-250 when upgrading to a 500GB Segate ( http://www.tivocommunity.com/tivo-vb/showthread.php?t=292126 ). I used the Weaknees instructions. Everything went fine and I got no errors. (I did not copy my programs though) When I put the drive into the Tivo it would not boot. I just stayed stuck at the "Welcome" screen.
I then went and used the Hinsdale Instructions which do not include the "-r 4" command and the system booted and ran fine.
I am now considering re-doing the upgrade to increase the swap space. I am in the process of reading up on Tpip 1.2 and trying to understand how to use it.
Good Luck! Hinsdales instructions worked for me. By the way, I downloaded the MFSTools from PTV not from Weaknees. It probably makes no difference, but that is the one that I used.

Thanks for the suggestion. I'm going to watch what happens to your swap space issues before I attempt this upgrade again. It seems like there is a lot of ambiguity on the board about the best way to accomplish a single drive 500gb drive upgrade.
There are is no one straightforward set of step by step instructions for this path, unless I've missed it. I hope I've missed it.
Anyone?
thanks again

Tonight I went and restored the backup that I made using Hinsdales How To. I wanted to increase my swap space to 250MB. I have a couple of threads going about the outcome, but I am optimistic.
The interesting thing is that although I used the Hinsdale How To for the backup, I used the Weaknees commands that included the "-r 4" to do the restore. I thought that I would just see what happens. Keep in mind that twice before I had done the upgrade using the "-r 4" and the disk would not boot. For some reason it booted fine this time.
I don't really know what that means, I just thought that you might be interested.
Good Luck

That may have been my problem all along.
Thanks for the info.
