just got this garage sale sony and i'd like to use this as a "manual" recorder - ie. set date/time/channel and record - don't want to get sub service right now

i tried, but i don't think this unit is one of the early ones that let you manually record - keeps telling me i'm not subscribed

i thought i read that if i convert it back to 1.3 system, that will allow me to use it as a manual recorder... yes?

if so, how do i do that? where to get a 1.3 system file?

thanks

How many threads are you going to start about this? :)

Anyone correct me if I am mistaken, but this depends on the original software version when it shipped, not what is currently on there now. In other words, he is SOL?

That's correct. The inability to record on a post 10/01 unit is not a function of the software, it's a policy.

only started this in this section cause nobody replied to me in the other, but seemed to reply to everyone else... :)

sorry bout that

like i said never used tivo before and got this cheap and was hoping i could just use it to record without service, but looks like i'd need a PRE oct 2001 unit to do that

so - is there anything i can do with this unit (hacks and all) besides subbing...
any way to use the hardware for recording etc.? through the direct ports?

maybe i'll try the gift card 3 month thing... that way there's no long term commitment, and at the end maybe they'd offer me the 6.95 month to month rate

thanks again and sorry for the "duplicate" post

I need a backup image for an svr2000, can anyone help me or tell me where to find one? I added a second drive and now I get the green screen.

Thanks
