Hi,

I have a series 1 tivo with the PTV upgrade. Recently, I switched to Skype internet phone service which as you all may know leaves you without a land line to make your daily calls. After searching I found the serial ppp info and was able to make my calls via the serial cable on OS X. I am able to get a bash via the terminal and FTP access via Transmit. I can even get the web browser to connect with but, only if I'm making a call via the tivo. Once the call is over I can not access tivo unless I start a daily call or test. Any solutions or reason as to why?

Becasue the TiVo ordinarily initiates the PPP connection when it makes its call, and terminates it when it is done.

You can modfy the TiVo files to always maintain the PPP connection, so you can telnet and FTP all you want.

Aha! Thanks for the heads up. What exactly do I have to change in the files to make tivo maintain the ppp connection? Once that's done, I'm good to go.
