I have just installed a new Maxtor 200 GB drive in my Philips 708. The seek noise is pretty loud in our bedroom. Maxtor no longer has setacm.exe or "silent store" on their web site (at least I couldn't find it). So...
1) Do the Maxtor "Ultra Series" (200GB, 7200 rpm, 8MB) drives support any acoustic management features?
2) Can I use my older setacm.exe on this drive?
3) Can I run setacm.exe on a drive that has already been imaged for a Tivo without having to re-image the drive afterwards?
Thanks!

here, i hosted the hitachi version. it should work. i used it on my diamond max 10 drive a few weeks ago
you'll have to burn it to a cd, its an iso.
or use winiso to put it on a floppy (not sure if it will fit)

by the way, on my computer, at least with my old motherboard, it would have a tendancy to freeze up if i used the mouse at all.
so i just use keyboard commands and arrow keys

Thanks - FYI: A quick search uncovered a slightly newer version on the Hitachi web site:

On my PC the mouse support seemed to work fine, and I successfully changed the AAM. It looks like my drive came out of the box set for max performnce (loudest). I set it to the quietest setting. It seems much better, but I won't really know until later tonight when the lights go out.
Last night, my wife said: "Is it raining?" - she thought the ticking from the drive seek was raindrops hitting the window! :p
