I posted a ton of help requests trying to figure out how I can hookup my Tivo, HD Cable box, Surround Sound receiver combo, and my HD/DLP TV...Took me several hours, but I got it working perfect with a second cable box. I used what I call a "basic home setup" (which is DVD player which in my case is part of the surround sound combo, tivo, cable box, and tv). I hooked those all up and that's Input 1 on my HDTV. I got a second cable box, and a 3way splitter (one going to cable modem) and set this up the same way but instead of a dvd player, I put the Tivo in-line where I have the DVD Player on the original setup, and this setup is now Input 2 on the HDTV. So when I wanna watch HD, I switch to Input 1, when I'm not watching HD and wanna use the Tivo, I switch to Input 2. And I can name each input on the TV, so Input 1 is labeled as "Cable Box" and Input 2 is named "Tivo". If I forget what I'm looking at, I press 'info' and the name of the machine currently in use is displayed on-screen. :) The sound from both setups is going to my TV and the TV out to the surround sound, so no matter what I have on-screen, the sound is always in 5.1 surround. Took me quite a while to get it all figured out, but now it works, and it's awesome. I've never had the ability to Tivo one show, and watch another. Now I can. I want to thank ALL of you. I took bits and pieces of tons of help posts here and got it all wired up and working as intended. :)

Thanks again!

Congrats! Now go drink a suitcase.

The utter aggravation of trying to do this for the past two days (about 11 hours total) had me drinkin since last night... I'm on my 9th now in tonight's batch.

Now sit down at your PC and your favorite drawing program and diagram your efforts. (If you haven't already.) This will help when you need to make changes.

Drew it on paper the way it is now. o if anything needs to change for any reason, I can go back to how it was if necessary.

I always like figuring these things out. It's like a puzzle with a really fun reward. I really am a geek.

Your TV passes 5.1 audio out to your AV receiver? Or is it just Surround Sound?

I'll be doing this on Friday when my HDTV gets delivered.

SA Tivo, DirecTV R10 Tivo, HR-10250 HD Tivo, DVD recorder/VHS combo, SA DVD Player (I like the interface better than the recorder, so I keep it in the system), and a PS2 all needing to get to the TV and the Surround Sound reciever.

I already have the above hooked to my SD TV, via it's 2 RCA/S-Video inputs, a 4x1 S-video/stereo switch, and the 2 switching video inputs in the surround reciever (1 with Optical Digital the other with Coaxial Digital)
The Coax antenna in on the TV is empty, everything runs through either S-Video or RCA inputs
The new HDTV will have everything entering via HDMI/Component or S-Video.

I purchased a 3x1 component/optical/stereo switcher for the HD Tivo and DVD players,
will keep the 4x1 S-Video/stereo switcher for the SD Tivos, VHS side of the combo and the PS2.

Friday I'll be able to see if it all works like I plan it to.
