So the upgrade from a 40GB to a 120GB drive went WAY easier than I expected. I'm pretty tech savvy but Linux may as well be a foreign language so I was pretty nervous. That said, the "new" TiVo powered up, set up and took all the system updates like a champ. The problem is that it's still reporting the "varies, 40 hours recording time" in the system information. Anybody have any idea what gives?

What TiVo model, what process did you use? Some details may help with a diagnosis

You forgot the x when you restored. You can use mfsadd to fix it

Sorry... it's a TiVo stand alone 540040 unit. I used MFS Tools 2.0 and a 540040 .bak file that I had to get from someone else as the HD on mine died. Like I said, I'm a pretty smart guy but I got nothin' but admiration for you Linux folks! I used "# mfsrestore -i /mnt/dos/tico.bak /dev/hdb.

Can someone please explain what classicat meant? ;^/

mfsrestore -xzpi /mnt/dos/tico.bak /dev/hdb

-x expands the image to fill the drive.

Put the drive back in your pc and expand it with
mfsadd -x /dev/hdb
Personally, I'd do it all over again using the restore command string that kschauwe posted.

Isn't upgrading easy? Amazes me how Weaknees and the like make a living with this. Well not really, since people are idiots and other people (companies) will take advantage of that.
