just got a tivo series 1 (sony svr2000) at a garage sale - it was manufactured OCT 2001, and has ver. 3 installed, so it doesn't currently seem to be able to do "basic" recording (ie. manual date/time/channel)
i don't really need to get tivo service, just want to use this as a dvr - record channels when we're heading out for the evening etc... don't need weekly recording or select from the cable schedule... just want to record "wed 7-8pm channel 73" etc.
in looking around, seems that older series 1's (pre oct 2001) could do manual recording...but i think mine was made after that date
i did read somewhere that i could install version 1.3 of the system onto the drive and it would then function as a manual recorder...
is this correct? where to go to get a 1.3 version? easy to "un-update"? :)
i thought i also saw somewhere instructions for upgrading the hd's but didn't see anything about taking one back to 1.3....
help is appreciated... love playing with gadgets... and i also have a couple old hd's laying around that could be put to use in this thing also
