Couldn't find an answer in the forums. After I upgrade the hd in my S2, what is the best method/packaging to store my original factory hd that came with the unit? Any cautions? I have no plans on using it again, but you never know what may come up, so I'd like to store it so that it remains in good condition...

I don't know the "best" method but I'll tell you what worked for me. I stuck the 40GB drive in exactly the same packaging (box, packaging, and anti-magnetic wrapping) that the 160GB upgrade drive came out of and taped it shut. 2 years later the 160GB starts into a reboot loop so I swap them back and the 40GB works fine. In fact, the 40GB sat in my garage for most of those 2 years.

Yes, definitely put it back in the original antistatic bag and in whatever holders and box that kept the drive safe in shipment. I wouldn't store it where it would experience temperature extremes. Keep it as free from moisture as possible. Use a product like DampRid packets/beads that will absorb moisture in the air where you place the drive. Change those from time to time.

I agree, using the replacement drives packaging - including the anti-static bag is a good idea.
When I had an upgraded S1 I stored the original drive in the unused HD bay in the Tivo itself.

Great! I'll use the new drive's packaging and store it away. TY all.
