Before the no-upfront-cost deal, what was the retail price for a new 80-hour Series 2, before and after rebates? I bought mine on eBay from someone who had bought a pallet of them at Sam's, so that doesn't count.

MSRP is $299 - $150 rebate
You can generally get them easilly for $69.99 after rebate.

So the new "real price" of $84* isn't really all that bad.
*$20/month for 1 year vs. $13/month = $84 hardware cost in the first year.

No, the no-up-front price is a pretty good deal. It's just that a lot of us have gotten used to getting rebate money back and pretty much only paying for lifetime on a 40-hour unit. Then, we upgrade it.

Best Buy has 'em for $219 - $150 = $69 but you have to activate for 12 months to get the rebate.

you have to activate for 12 months to get the rebate.
All new subscriptions have a 1 year commitment, with or without rebate.

Actually the new "real price" is $68.60
1 year pre-paid = $224
12 months * $12.95 = $155.40
$224 - $155.40 = $68.60

2 years service + box prepaid = $369
Box = $70
3 years service only prepaid = $469
3 years service + box prepaid = $399
Box = $70
