So I’ve been a member of this site for a little over a year and a half and I’ve seen a lot posted out here. To be very honest, I don’t like what I’m seeing. It seems like more than half the posts in the “Tivo Discussion” area are members bitching and complaining about EVERYTHING! The latest round, many members are posting messages about the new pricing structure that Tivo just recently implemented. TiVoOpsMgr is doing a great job explaining what’s going on and what you can and can’t do with subscriptions now. Some people are being rude and disrespectful to him. News flash people…he doesn’t have to give us any information, it is a gift that we have some “inside” information and a place where we can get some direct answers. So I wanted to say thanks directly to TiVoOpsMgr and to all the others on the board that help each other out and provide information. And to all of those out there that aren’t happy with the service and don’t like what’s going on with Tivo…leave…sell your box and take your negativity and rudeness off the board.

The Kool-Aid drinkers have all died.

You would have loved this place a couple of years ago.

So I’ve been a member of this site for a little over a year and a half and I’ve seen a lot posted out here.Ah, memories. I've been coming here off and on, for going on six years. People have always been whining and complaining. That's what they do, because they like it. It's fun. It's free. It passes the time. It takes no effort at all.

Of course, if you point out the fallacies of the complainers, if you point out that TiVo is in a much, much stronger position today than it was two years ago, why, that makes you a "Koolaid drinker" and no sane person should listen to you.

Don't worry. Watch this forum transform itself once again when it is inundated with yet another new wave of TiVo newbies. I've seen the process happen several times already. After your first few times watching this cycle (newby ---> enthusiast ---> complainer ---> Chicken Little "TiVo is doomed" ---> back to newby and repeat the cycle), you'll grow cynical and stop paying attention to the complainers. TiVo, Inc., knows what it is doing, even if it is not perfect (and who is?). Your average TiVo user does not have a clue about TiVo, Inc., and does not need to.

Sure, there is a lot of criticism of TiVo the company here, but very little criticism of TiVo the product. Most of the criticism comes from frustration that TiVo isn't doing as well as many of us think it should be doing, and many posts contain ideas for how things should be done. Obviously, these ideas are not based on facts that TiVo Inc has, and are merely amateur suggestions. But I have been here for a few years now, and I find the majority of "complaints" to be very well stated, and often sparking interesting debate. It's not the juvenile "This sucks!" mentality that your post suggests.

Plus you wrote "Some people are being rude and disrespectful to him.". Maybe there have been a few instances of that (although I can't remember them), but the main part of the "opposition" have been simple disagreements.

Okay, my observation: People always get upset by change, but adapt. I'd have to agree most of the posts I've seen evidence a love for Tivo the product, and infectious loyalty to the platform. Even though the changes might rankle people, I have been impressed by the overall civility.

It seems like a great group of people to spend some time with.

You have no idea how true that is (http://www.tivocommunity.com/tivo-vb/showthread.php?t=281472).

I agree! He helped me out tremendously this morning when I was freaking out! :D I would have had to wait another 3 hours to get an answer because I'm on the east coast.

Its all good and I speculate that TiVo inc. would rather there be a full range of feedback rather than just "Thanks for all the fish". I try and stay away from the edge and fall on the curve on the side of Happy with TiVo and its direction. Because if I was not then I personally would not spend as much time on the board and would move on.

but to emphasize, a full range of feedback is what TiVo needs. Now rants on the extreme edge of the bell curve? who needs em?

Plus it sharpens my debating skills for those troublesome business meetings.

PS - having the TiVo voices here also makes this forum the one most worth coming to for TiVo info. Since they are here in a professional capacity it is just wise and beneficial to treat TiVo personnel in a professional way.

I'd like to complain about Doug complaining about the complainer who started this complaining thread.

EDIT: Did you ever notice what a weird word "complain" is?

Oh, crap, now I've complained about the word "complain."

If people didn't have anything to complain about, they wouldnt be here. They would be spending all of their time sitting in front of their TIVO.

I'd like to complain about my butt itching...
I too am tired of all the whining, and I haven't even been here all that long...most times when I get on here now, I just go to the TV Show talk and the "general/off topic" areas because of all the whining...
I think taking away lifetime sucks, but I'm not going to devote big chunks of my day to continuously post about it...plus I actually appreciate the Tivo employees who take the time to talk with us...
But some people have absolutely no life and feel the need to bitch about everything...
Also, since it's been posted several times in this post...I hate pop culture phrase abuse like "drink the Kool Aid" and "jump the shark" (I know that one hasn't been used in this thread, yet, but still)...aye...
I feel much better now, thank you...

The biggest issue is what you end up with on most support, feedback and discussion areas are complaints. When people have issues they look for others in their same boat, people to vent at and just to get more information.

When things are going well people don't think about it, and don't desire to chat about it online. As mentioned above the Kool-Aid drinkers have diminished a great deal. This place was very feel-good and cultish for a long time. Everything was good and everyone was happy. For years I would just pop in and browse once in a while, because I really didn't have any issue with my tivo. I was no longer interested in spending half my waking life thinking about, it was and is an appliance and does its expected job. Nothing to really talk about...

So what you end up with is mostly people who have issues or problems, at least in the general chat areas.

TIVO is a business like any other and we are the customers plain and simple. If you want this to just turn into a FANBOY site for TIVO and never being critical of TIVO then thats what would happen. TIVO makes a good product but I for one and not happy with many decisions they make including the choice to end lifetime subscriptions. TIVO is lucky to have a forum like this so they can see customer reactions and opinions to there service. This is NOT a Tivo owned site! Tivo is also lucky to have customers like me with 2 Series ones for several years. I'm not going to suger coat anything for your benefit to make you happy. The beauty of this is if I don't like the TIVO product then I can bring my business elsewhere and thats exactly what I intend to do with the latest Tivo annoucement. I'm not going to have Tivo price gouging me for several years. This place is bad enough already and has more than its fair share of Fanboys. I've been reading this site for several years and get tired of all the Tivo butt kissing that goes on here. If Tivo can't take some constructive criticism then maybe they shouldn't be readng post here!

Yeah I've been called that. And a bunch more. What's really cool is when you get called contradictory names in different threads on the same day.
