I updraded my standalone Series 2 Tivo a year ago. I added an 80 Gbd and got about 130 hrs out of it. It never failed me until I turned on my TV and saw the Powering up screen. I've tried rebooting and rebooting and it goes from the powering up to the grey screen. I've thought about changing my original A:drive HD to a 200 Gb and this might be a good time. Could someone tell me if this is possible or is the Tivo gone for good?

Most likely one of the HD is bad. Hard drives are cheap, you should try to do an upgrade to a new SINGLE drive.

Dual drive Tivos are not a good idea for the following reasons:
1) Twice the heat inside the case. Probably why one of the drives failed after only 1 year.
2) Twice the noise with 2 drives.
3) One drive goes bad, and the other one will no longer work since they are 'married' together. You know firsthand about this.
4) Twice the power drain on the power supply in the Tivo, which wasn't designed for 2 drives.
5) Doubles the chance of drive failure with 2 drives.
Pickup a 200 to 300gb drive and keep one of the old drives imaged as a backup.

RE: #4 - The series one was designed for 2 drives. A lot of the original 30 hour units had 2 drives.
