If I did transfer ownership of a brand New TiVo(Not even delieverd) with lifetime, would that cause the $150 rebate to be denied?
I could have the ownership changed before I could even send in the Rebate forms.
This ownership could be changed after the rebate if needed. However, would that cause problems if I would have my S1 TiVo under my ownership calling from my brothers house, and his S2 calling from my house.
Should we just switch boxes later also?

I dont think it should matter. The rebate is not dependant on any term of service that i recall. It is merely a purchase rebate...plain and simple. :-)

As I understand it, if you are the original purchaser, as soon as you activated lifetime service, you were eligible for the rebate. If you have the purchase receipt and the barcode/serial stuff, you should be good to go, especially if you pre-register the rebate online where you enter the Tivo service number and your name/address, etc.

One of the things I remember hearing from a CSR about that was:
In order for the rebate to take affect, the unit must make a connection to TIVO within 30 days of purchase.
I had a concern because I bought one for my parents and was hoping to get the rebate sent to me. But since I had to register the TIVO in my Dad's name, I guess I have to send it to him and after it connects using his phone #, etc... It will have him down as the recipent of the rebate....
We'll see

According to the rebate form:
1. You must activate by 5/31/06.
2. Service must remain activated for at least 30 days, so you can't terminate early. (Note, you can terminate a contract in the first 30 days and avoid any $150 early termination fee that otherwise applies).
3. Service must be active at the time the rebate is processed
4. Service must be at least a 12 month commitment.
It says nothing about who owns the unit or what happens in case of a transfer of ownership.
You bought the unit, your name is on the receipt and rebate form that is processed. I don't see how anyone other than you is elligible for the rebate.

I thought that was the case. the one thing that is the sticky point, TiVo Reward points. I'm thinking of putting my 100hr S1 up for sale. Then get the TiVo Web special with only a $155 1 year service contract. Then upgrade it with Instant cake and a good deal on a drive.
One caveat with this is my other brother forgot the bios code on the computer which I have now. It is getting dated and need a good cheap computer anyways. No need for hardcore Gaming.
