So I've been looking forward to Thief, bigtime, when I saw a banner ad for a new NBC show called Heist of all things.

Obviously it's a slightly different direction, it looks like Ocean's 11 in a way. But even still, I just wish the networks would stop this sort of crap. Blah blah blah competition, I realize that, but still.

It also has Shane Vandrell's wife from The Shield in it.

I wonder if either of these shows were inspired (or ripoffs of) Hustle (BBC British show being aired on AMC)?

I doubt it.

Hustle is an episodic show about a bunch of long con artists. Humorous.

Heist is (AFAIK) a season-long show about a series of robberies.

Thief is (AFAIK) an episodic show about a professional thief and his family etc. Reminds me more of the Parker books (though I'm guessing not quite as dark). (The Parker books were the source for Mel Gibson's 1999 movie Payback (http://us.imdb.com/title/tt0120784/) as well as the 1983 movie Slayground (http://us.imdb.com/title/tt0088135/) and the 1967 Point Blank (http://us.imdb.com/title/tt0062138/) among several others.)

Hustle is great. If you haven't seen it, do it! Just saw the one with the old money note. Most excellent! You have to watch every minute of that show and not read the paper etc while lest you miss something.

I was going to record Heist, but it looks like SD (according the the missng FLAG), and I'm not trying any new shows that aren't HD. Am I wrong?

I have been trying to set up a season pass for Thief since they started running commercials for it in January. Once I realized that it did not debut until march 28, I figured I would try again 2 weeks prior. I tried to add it again last night, but the FX schedule on DTV only went out to March 26.

It kills me because I am pretty forgetful. When I think of something, I do it immediately otherwise, it will never get done. I just hope something triggers my mind to set that pass up in the next week or so.

Same here.

I also set up an SP for Heist. What I found strange was that, not only is the pilot on twice (22nd and 24th), but the pilot is also being shown on Bravo that same week. Isn't that a bit unusual?

I guess it wouldn't hurt to try it, the spot is open so I'll record it!

Where is Thief at? TiVo didn't find it.

I'm like this, as well. We're in luck, though. FX is pretty solid about showing replays of their new shows throughout the week.

Actually that's been pretty normal for new stuff on NBC for the last couple of years. They'll either replay stuff on CNBC or Bravo at the beginning of the show to try and build viewers. Unfortunately they usually only do this for the first show or the first couple and it's not the normal MO throughout the run of the series.

Why don't you setup a Wishlist entry for "Thief"? That's what I usually do for a new show that I see advertised that's not yet showing in the guide data. You can even rank the Wishlist entry in the Season Pass manager just like you would a reguarl SP IIRC. Then, after the show is airing, just change it over to a real SP.

I hate general wishlists. If I set up one with keyword "Thief", it will end up recording a million & one shows that have thief in the title or description & bumping all my good shows off the tivo.

I understand the logic behind only going out 10 days on the schedule, but I would love it if they could at least load show titles in the SP search engine. That would also come in handy when you get a new Tivo box & you need to transition all your season passes manually...at a time like the summer when all your shows are not on the air.

Make it a Title wishlist, show type Premiere or Series, and FRO, and you won't get that many hits.

Or figure out who the actors are and put in an actor wishlist for one of the lesser known people. Then it will hit for that person but since they haven't done much, it won't hit anything else.

And again, FRO is your friend for limiting false hits.

I think Heist is kind of like the Prison Break of heist shows, one season about one heist (which is 3 heists).

Looks interesting. It's from Doug Liman who I usally like (Swingers, Go, Bourne Identity, Mr & Mrs Smith)

I saw the ad for Heist and immediately thought it was an American version of Hustle. With the difference being Heist is about thieves and Hustle is about con men. It wouldn't be the first time they have done an American version of a UK show and made minor and major changes to the formula.

Look at these group shots from both shows....

Please be careful guys - there's no spoiler tag on this thread and I, for one, am away on business and won't get to see it until at least the weekend.

Without trying to be or sound like a thread cop, could you please discuss the show under a new spoiler tagged thread? Thanks a lot. :)

It seems like they're been running promos for Thief since the Carter administration.
